Our architects trying to keep up with challenges: Shahab Ghani

Karachi: President Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP) Shahab Ghani Khan has observed that Pakistani architects continued their endeavour to keep up with the challenges and strive for improvement and creativity. He was speaking at the Excellence in Architectural Design Awards-giving ceremony to recognize exemplary works done here.

The entries were a good mix of veterans and young architects while the Jury of Assessors comprised of Shahab Ghani Khan (President IAP) , Professor Dr. Gulzar Haider (Head, Department of Architecture, BNU, Lahore), Sikandar Ajam Khan (Principal, School of Architecture and Design, NUST, Islamabad), Nazia Khan (Artist), and architect Ashraf Shanjer (Convener IAP).

In the Category of Restoration and Adaptive Re-use Building, renowned architect Habib Fida Ali was presented 1st prize for renovating his 19th century residence. Speaking on the occasion Habib Fida Ali said he was living in that house for the last four decades and during that time six such residential structures along that lane crumbled away. Serena Hotel fetched its architect Nayyar Ali Dada first prize in that specific category(Buildings with Covered Area Above 25,000 sft) for which there were nine nominations.

Yasmeen Lari gave away trophy to Najeeb Omar for designing the Residence of M. Zaheer Adamjee (Single-Family Residential Units Category); In the Grouping of Industrial Buildings Shahid Abdullah’s Khaadi Factory and Anjum Pervez’s Plastech Autosafe Factory Building earned them laurels; Work carried out at Standard Chartered Bank by Ahsan Najmi/Sarah Najmi Bilgrami and Syed Zayd Bilgrami was reckoned award-winning by the Jury in the Category of Interior Space Above 5000 sft.
