Islamabad, February 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): “I strongly believe in the motto of Pak-Turk Schools; “TWO COUNTRIES, ONE NATION”, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Zahid Hamid said in his address to Prize distribution ceremony of Pakistan’s largest mathematics Olympiad ISMO (Inter Schools Mathematics Olympiad), held here at Marriott Hotel Islamabad on Tuesday.
Mr. Zahid Hamid, expressed his pleasure over this step taken by Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges. He said that such events provide our youth the chance to show their talent to the world. He further said that the friendship between Pakistan and Turkey is beyond the time and borders. Mr. Hamid said.
“Mathematic is known as a difficult subject but it changed the course of the world. ISMO is an excellent event to promote Science and Mathematics”. The Minister said that Pakistan and Turkey have long last and time tested friendship. There is government to government and people to people contact between the two nations. The minister congratulated the students, their parents and teachers for their performance and lauded the administration of Pak-Turk Schools for organizing such an event for the students.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, Pak-Turk International Educational CAG Educational Foundation, Mr.Unal TOSUR said that in order to arouse interest for the all important subject of mathematics, Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges have been organizing Inter Schools Mathematics Olympiad (ISMO) for the last 9 years.
Mr. TOSUR said, “It is a fact that there are not enough chances for our students to exhibit their talent to the world. There is an immense need of such programs for our brilliant youth. This unique competition provides a great chance for the students to show their incredible potential and win handsome prizes.”
The competition was open for the students of government Schools as well as those of private schools and for both genders. The alma mater announced attractive prizes for the position holders as well as for the runner-ups. The cash prizes for the first three positions are Rs. 50,000, 40,000 and 30,000 respectively for class 5, 6, 7 and class 8 categories. The total prize money of the event was more than Rs. 1 million.
This year Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges organized 9th edition of Inter Schools Mathematics Olympiad (ISMO). More than 11000 students from all four provinces and capital of Pakistan participated in the mega educational competition. The competition was held in 9 cities at 22 venues simultaneously. The every year increasing number of the participating students showed the credibility and transparency of the event.
High government officials, prominent businessmen, students, teachers, heads of educational institutions, educationists and parents of the winning students also attended the prize distribution ceremony, held here in Islamabad. Chief Guest, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Mr.Zahid Hamid distributed the certificates, plaques and cash awards among the top position holders.
