Islamabad: Pakistan and China agree to expand and further strengthen media cooperation between the two countries, as a high-level delegation of Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting met Li Wei, China’s Vice Minister for State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) here this evening, says a press release from China here today.
The delegation, led by Additional Secretary, Shah Zaman also includes DG External Publicity Wing, Samina Pervaiz, DG Information Service Academy, Mubashshrah Bajwa and Assistant Director, Faisal Ilyas.
The delegation, on a five-day visit to Beijing, said Pakistan is keen to expand media cooperation with China particularly in the field of TV program sharing and personnel training.
Li Wei said that China and Pakistan are best of friends and exemplary neighbours. He said it is encouraging that the two countries are working towards bringing the media persons of the two countries closer.
He also mentioned the recent visit of Chinese media persons led by China Radio International (CRI) to take a tour along the Indus river as well as the ongoing visit of Pakistani media persons on the invitation of CRI to take a tour along the Yangtze river.
The Pakistan delegation said this interaction provides a good opportunity to the media persons of both the countries to understand each other’s culture and civilization better while enabling them to learn from each other’s best practices. They appreciated the role being played by SARFT in facilitating such visits as well as for inviting PTV and PBC personnel on short training courses.
Earlier, during their visit to the Communication University of China (CUC) the delegation met Vice President, Hu Zhengrong and visited various sections of the university, including animation department and television broadcast department.
They were informed that CUC is one of the key media and communication universities of China which offers 48 masters programs and 24 doctoral programs and has more than 15 thousand full-time students.
The delegation expressed Ministry of Information’s desire of establishing long-term relationship with CUC for the training of Ministry’s personnel as well as media persons of Pakistan.
The delegation also called on Deputy Chief Editor of China Central TV (CCTV), Zhu Tong. During the meeting they emphasized on the need of developing a mechanism for sharing of news and programs by PTV and CCTV on a regular basis.
