Pakistan committed to extending full moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiri people till realization of their right to self-determination: Mohammad Nadeem Khan

Islamabad, February 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): Speakers at a seminar in the Malaysian capital have called for renewed efforts to knock at the world’s conscience to seek support for the people of Kashmir struggling to realize their goal of self-determination for more than six decades.

The call was made during a function organised by the High Commission for Pakistan in Malaysia at Pakistan House in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day observed all over the world on 5th February every year to express solidarity and support for the oppressed people of Kashmir.

A large number of civil society representatives, members of the Pakistani community, academicians and students attended the function while Acting Pakistan High Commissioner Mohammad Nadeem Khan, noted Malaysian academician Dr. Abdullah al-Ahsan and young Kashmiri scholar Ms. Tahira Batool, currently pursuing PhD at the University Malaysia Pahang spoke on the occasion.

The speakers highlighted the spirit of the day and called on the international community to step up its efforts to help resolve the issue of Kashmir to ensure peace and stability in the region. They said the people of Kashmir had long suffered for want of freedom and in an age when the human freedoms were watched and secured by the civilized world through diplomatic means and dialogue, the Kashmiris were being deprived of their basic rights and forced to live a life of subjugation.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan to Malaysia, Mr. Mohammad Nadeem Khan highlighted the spirit of the Kashmir Solidarity Day and dilated upon Pakistan’s continued efforts to resolve the long-standing issue of Kashmir.

“Our position is based on the support for a just cause and on principles recognized by the international community and enshrined in the UN Charter,” he said, adding that Pakistan was committed to extending full moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people till the realization of their right to self-determination.
