Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front urges government to cut down negative list of importable items from India

Lahore, January 01, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) on Wednesday urged the government to cut down the negative list of importable items from India so that more items could be imported from a neighboring country instead of getting from a third country.

The demand was raised by the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javaid while talking to a delegation of All Pakistan paper Merchants Association APPMA). The delegation was led by former APPMA Chairman Khamis Saeed Butt and comprised QayyumRaza, Bao Muhammad Bashir, Saadat Hussain, Khawaja Nadeem Saeed Wyne and Muhammad Ajmal.

The delegation informed the PIAF Chairman that local paper mills were only fulfilling 60 per cent of the total paper requirement of the country therefore the government should grant permission for paper import from India to enable the students to have education material at affordable prices.

Malik Tahir Javaid said that the PIAF was a staunch supporter of trade with regional countries for being cost effective. He said that the economy would get back on its feet as soon as the required attention is given to promote business with regional countries.

He said that there were quite a few items that were being imported through a third country because they are in the negative list and if the negative list is shortened the people in India and Pakistan would get a direct benefit.

He said that since the present government was giving due attention towards the early revival of the economy, therefore it is the most opportune time that it should review the list of banned items as far as trade between Pakistan and India was concerned.

He said that all such items which are not being manufactured in Pakistan should be allowed to import from India without any further delay.
