Karachi, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): In a high level meeting, the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael stressed on the possibility of exports of perishable items like food and vegetables, through speedy boats of 45 – 50 nautical miles speed per hour, to UAE and gulf countries in just 28 hours.
This will reduce the cost of exports such items by 75%. Presently, these items are exported through airlines. Minister for Ports and Shipping further said that through commencement of this service Pakistan will be able to export meat, vegetables, fruits and fish to the gulf countries and can earn foreign exchange out of it. He also mentioned more project to follow soon as the government is very anxious to facilitate the trade community who earn foreign exchange for the country.
The meeting was well attended by DG Fisheries, Chairman PNSC, representatives of international shipping lines, representatives of Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industries and representatives of Vegetable and Fruits Association.
