Islamabad, February 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): A ceremony was held today at the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. It was presided over by Ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani. The messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out at the ceremony after the recitation of the holy Quran.
Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador paid tributes to the valiant people of Kashmir who have rendered tremendous sacrifices in their struggle for attaining their inalienable right to self-determination.
He said, over the past two decades, thousands of Kashmiri men, women and children had been martyred for raising their voice for their legitimate struggle. The Ambassador urged India to respond to the demands of the people of Kashmir and initiate measures to end the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris. He emphasized that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute was key to ensuring peace and security in South Asia. The resolution of this long-standing dispute lay in the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions, he added.
The Ambassador urged the international community to help bring about a sustainable and lasting solution to this issue. Appreciating the active interest taken by the United Nations, European Union, European Parliament and the OIC in highlighting the Kashmir issue, the human right violations and the plight of the Kashmiris, the Ambassador expressed the hope that the international community would continue to remain engaged to resolve the dispute that has remained one of the oldest unresolved issue before the United Nation.
Iranian Scholar Dr. Bavand and Mr. Hamid Golpira in their speeches highlighted the plight of the Kashmiri people, reiterating the need for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris people. The speakers reiterated that the Kashmir dispute should be settled through a UN supervised plebiscite.
They highlighted the atrocities of the Indian occupation forces in occupied Kashmir and called on the international community to put pressure on India for bringing an end to human rights violations being committed against the Kashmiri people.
Several Iranian poets in their poems voiced their support to the Kashmiri people in their struggle to achieve the right of self determination. They said the Indian brutalities have failed to suppress the freedom sentiment of the people of Kashmir.
Posters, pamphlets and leaflets depicting atrocities of the Indian forces against the innocent people of Kashmir were displayed and distributed among the participants of the function.
English dailies Iran News, Kayhan International and Persian daily Jomhouri Eslami carried an article on Kashmir Solidarity Day provided by this Mission.
The function was attended by Iranian scholars, academicians, intellectuals, media representatives, members of the Pakistani community, number of students from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Urdu Department of Tehran University and Defence Attachés posted in Tehran.
