Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Mauritius underscores need to further promote and develop trade relations between Pakistan and Mauritius

Karachi, July 31, 2015 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Raza Muhammad has underscored the need to further promote and develop trade relations between Pakistan and Mauritius. Exchanging with Acting President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan during his visit to KCCI, Raza Muhammad said that business communities of both countries must strive to improve the existing trade relations by exploring investment opportunities and seek joint ventures in various sectors of the economy.

Besides Acting President KCCI, the meeting was also attended by Commercial Head of Honorary Consulate of Mauritius Muhammad Sajjad Azam, KCCI Managing Committee members and others. The High Commissioner was of the view that Pakistani business and industry should also focus on expanding trade ties with Seychelles Island which could act as hub of business and trading activities for the entire African continent. Seychelles Island is a safe and secure destination with friendly business laws, he added. He informed that besides acting as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, he will also be discharging his duties for three other countries including Seychelles Island, Comoros and Madagascar.

Raza Muhammad assured to proactively discharge his services by extending best possible support to the business and industrial community of Pakistan, particularly KCCI members so that they could develop strong business ties with their counterparts in these countries. Speaking on the occasion, Acting President KCCI Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan, while briefing the Ambassador about the functioning of KCCI, said that Karachi Chamber has been working rigorously towards resolving trade related and other issues being faced by the business and industrial community.

Acting President KCCI also stressed the need to explore investment opportunities in various sectors of the economy, particularly the tourism and healthcare sectors. He was of the view that business communities of the two countries should strengthen trade ties by focusing on the agriculture and halal products whereas the textile, handicrafts, antique furniture and handmade products also hold immense potential for enhancing trade.

On the occasion, Agha Shahab, while inviting the High Commissioner at KCCI’s My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony exhibition scheduled to staged next year in the month of April, sought Raza Muhammad’s assistance for promoting this mega event in Mauritius which will provide a perfect platform to Mauritian businessmen and industrialist to not only examine Pakistan’s retail market but also hold Business-to-Business meetings under one roof.
