People foil police attempt to arrest Hurriyet activist in Hajin

Srinagar, April 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, people foiled the attempt of Indian police to arrest an activist of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir (TeH) in Hajin area of Bandipora district by staging a forceful demonstration. Eyewitnesses told mediamen that a police team in civvies reached Mir Mohalla area of Hajin in a private car and tried to bundle the TeH activist, Abdul Hamid Parray, into the vehicle. However, the people staged protests and forced the cops to run away from the spot.

They said that the policemen ran away from the spot leaving behind their vehicle, which was damaged by the angry people. Locals in the area complained that the police were raiding various localities to arrest the youth, who had participated in the protests after the killing of a youth, Farhat Ahmed Dar, last month. Farhat was killed after the police had opened indiscriminate fire on peaceful protesters in Naidkhai area of Bandipora district on March 14.

The locals said that the police earlier arrested minors in connection with the protests who were later bailed out by the local court. It is to mention here that four activists of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Meraj-ud-Din Nanda, Asadullah Parray, Showkat Hakeem and Sajad Ahmad Nawoo have been booked by the police under false charges for participating in the demonstrations in the area.
