PM lifts ban on mobile number portability – Alfalah Securities Limited

Karachi, November 30, 2012 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister has withdrawn the earlier restriction imposed on mobile number portability and also the mobile companies would continue to issue SIM cards from their own business and self operated centers as well as franchise centers after due verification from National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

According to Alfalah Securities Limited, however, the sale of SIMs from other retail outlets will continue to remain suspended until the biometric devices are deployed at each centre. The reversal of suspension of MNP and SIM issuance bodes well for the telecom sector which may have to suffer on the profits due to this restriction. PTCL is also likely to benefit through its subsidiary – Ufone.
