PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry eyes diplomats’ role important in promotion of trade relation

Islamabad, May 31, 2012 (PPI-OT): A 36-member delegation of mid-career foreign trainee diplomats led by Director General, Foreign Service Academy, Mr.Khallid Usman Qaiser visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).

Speaking on the occasion, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President ICCI said that foreign diplomats could play an effective role for the promotion of trade relations and they should adopt innovative strategies to cope with the emerging global challenges.

ICCI President urged the foreign diplomats to identify tradable items, which leaves a lot of room for product/market diversification. The basics for such exercises stem from the exchange of information between the diplomatic missions and the chambers. He said the diplomats should also promote investment and trade between states.

Yassar Sakhi Butt said that Pakistan offer great opportunities for joint ventures in numerous sectors which are all open specially for foreign investors giving all the security to their investment and interest. He said that Pakistan is located in the region which has easy excess to the Asia as well as market of Middle East, therefore, he invited investors to come and explore various sectors of Pakistan that offer huge investment potential.

He said that consistent liaison between the diplomats and the business community, especially with representative bodies like the Islamabad Chamber, can exploit opportunities that arise from time to time in your designated countries.

Khallid Usman Qaiser, Director General, Foreign Service Academy thanked the ICCI team for its gesture and explained the role of the academy in preparing diplomats for the jobs ahead. He said that academy had acquired a good reputation as diplomats from a number of other countries attended the specialized courses, which gave them additional knowledge about diplomacy as well as an overview of Pakistan and its people.

The foreign diplomats from 20 countries asked a number of questions ranging from Pakistan’s economy to chamber-to-chamber relations.
