Karachi, May 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): President China International Water and Electric Corporation Li Zhili China International Water and Electric Corporation Pakistan has expressed Corporation’s interest to invest in Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme K-IV. China International is already working on some of important high profile projects in Pakistan.
He expressed this in a meeting with Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Mashkoor ul Hasnain, Chief Engineer Asadullah Khan, Chief Engineer Saleem Ahmed Siddiqui and PS to MD Khurram Shehzad were also present on this occasion.
MD KW and SB briefed the delegation that Greater Karachi Water Supply Project K-IV is in its initial stages after approval of plans from ECNEC and Government of Pakistan. Karachi needs 400 million Gallons of Water whereas, Phase I of project would cause 29 Billion to be completed in 4 years. It is thus far not only the largest South Asian project but is of unique importance.
Upon Completion this project Karachi would not only have ample supply for 30 years with 650 million gallon water through the project and 100 cusec additional water supply. The project would be an important milestone in the development of this city. M.D KW and SB stated that the meeting was first of many to come and important details regarding the projects were discussed in this meeting.
Furthermore, MD KW and SB stated that KW and SB engineers would stay in touch with the Corporation and provide them with all necessary details. He said it then depends on the corporation how much they want to invest.
President CIWEC Li Zhili expressing his interest in the project said that he is going to forward all the necessary details to his Parent Company since we are deeply interested in this important KW and SB project. He said the CIWEC is working on several important projects in Pakistan and we want this project to be completed at the highest technical quality level possible.
DMD Planning Mashkoor ul Hasnain briefed the delegation about the details of the project whereas Chief Engineer Saleem Siddiqui briefed the delegation with the help of a documentary.
In the end, MD KW and SB said that consultants would finalize Designing and Planning of the project whereas, Government of Sindh is providing the land required for this project with the approval of all Government Institutions. Any MoU would be signed with Government Consent, where full or partial investment by CIWEC is subject to approval by the Federal Government.
He said that due to the vital importance of the project it is necessary that the project is completed on time ensuring a boost in the supply for Industrial and Residential water supply needs. He also briefed the delegation about Greater Karachi Sewerage Treatment Plant S-III and presented them with Ajrak and Topi.
