President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry visits Taiwan; signs deal with Taiwan External Trade Development Council to develop commercial ties between the two countries

Islamabad, July 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik, the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has signed a MoU with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) which will help to further develop trade and commercial ties between Pakistan and Taiwan.

The President of FPCCI was received on arrival in Taipei by TAITRA officials, following which he held a meeting with Mr. Yuen-Chuan Chao, President and CEO of TAITRA and discussed matters of mutual interest.

He stated that his visit to Taiwan and the Taiwanese delegation’s visit to Pakistan in April 2013 were good developments, and would be a stepping stone for further developments. He identified the issuance of visa for Pakistani businessmen and the non-existence of TAITRA’s overseas office in Pakistan as two areas where Pakistan is facing a stumbling block in furthering ties with Taiwan.

An MOU between FPCCI and TAITRA was signed which was attended by a large gathering on the occasion. The President FPCCI once more reiterated that the MoU is a historical development in Taiwan-Pakistan trade relations which will be a road map for future exchanges which will enhance trade and investment collaboration. He invited the President of TAITRA to lead a delegation to Pakistan. He also offered all possible facilities to further develop participation in exhibitions by both the sides and getting joint venture buy-back.

Later, while talking to representatives of the press and media who interviewed him, Mr. Zubair Malik said that the exchange of sector-specific trade delegations and a proactive involvement of the business community of both the countries can enhance bilateral trade relations further.

He said that trade and economic cooperation can take place between the two countries in areas such as textiles, denim fabrics, leather, fruits etc from Pakistan’s side, while Taiwan could look upon in areas of hi-tech industry and transfer of technology as Taiwan is one of the leading countries in the world in the field of cutting edge technological innovation.
