Prime Minister’s meeting with President of Azerbaijan on sidelines of World Economic Forum

Davos, January 21, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Prime Minister held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos today. The Federal Minister of Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan, and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi, were also present during the meeting.

This was the first interaction between the two leaders. Both leaders, keeping in view the cordial relations between the two countries, discussed a wide array of bilateral and international issues. The Prime Minister underscored the need for enhancing bilateral trade, improving connectivity and strengthening defence ties with Azerbaijan. Pakistan and Azerbaijan already enjoy a robust partnership with strong cooperation in many areas.

The two countries also support each other on Nagorno-Karabakh and Kashmir issues. The meeting between the two countries helped reaffirm support for each other and bring forth opportunities for further strengthening this partnership. The Prime Minister extended an invitation to H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the First Lady to visit Pakistan at their convenience.
