Probe into incidents of massacres in IOK demanded

Srinagar, January 22, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders and organizations paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal massacre on their 26th anniversary have appealed to the world human rights organizations to probe all such incidents in the territory to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Over fifty innocent people were killed and scores others injured when Indian troops had opened indiscriminate fire on peaceful protesters in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21, 1990.The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference- (G), Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement issued in Srinagar demanded an impartial investigation into the Gaw Kadal massacre for stern punishment to the involved troops.

Until the Indian armed forces involved in war crimes in Kashmir are brought to book, the loss of precious human lives in territory will continue to happen, he added. The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the silence of the international human rights organizations over numerous massacres that happened in Kashmir as unfortunate. “Though Indian forces were involved in various massacres in Kashmir including at Gaw Kadal, Hawal, Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara, and Chatti Singhpora, the people involved in these massacres were never apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement added.

APHC leader, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, led a protest march on the anniversary of Gawkadal massacre. Speaking on the occasion, he appealed to the international community to take strong notice of the excesses and human rights violations being committed by Indian forces’ personnel in occupied Kashmir.

He said that the massacre was a well thought-out plan of the then Indian government aimed at paving the way for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley. The JKLF-R arranged a condolence meeting in Srinagar to commemorate the martyrs. The participants of the meeting paid tributes to the martyrs and appealed to the world community to impress upon India to prosecute the culprits.

The Chairperson of Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen, Zamaruda Habib, in a statement, while paying tribute to the victims of Gaw Kadal massacre said that the blood of Kashmiri martyrs would not go waste. APHC leader, Javaid Ahmad Mir, in his statement in Srinagar said, “The carnage took place after Indian forces opened indiscriminate fire on peaceful demonstrators protesting against the molestation of several women by forces.”
