Lahore, October 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): On the final day of the Divisional Level of the Punjab Youth Festival 2012, Lahore District were the clear winner in all the general, educational and technical categories on Saturday. In all 44 events were contested in nine divisions of the province and were participated by 1416 players and 418 earned their place in the next level of the festival. In Lahore, events of boxing, billiard, baseball, basketball, taekwondo, swimming, tug of war, table tennis and volleyball were completed while on the final day intervarsity athletics, school cricket and girls athletics were held in sports category while in non-sporting category, dress show was held at the Model Town degree college. In the Inter-varsity athletics, University of Central Punjab with four gold medals won the Divisional Level.
In the female 800 metres race, Bisma Afzal of LCU was the winner. Danish Mahmood of UCP won the shot put event while Aiysha Riaz of LCU took the gold medal. In boys javelin throw, Altaf Hussain of GCU took the gold medal. In 100 metres girls race, Seed Aaun of University of Central Punjab got to the top while Sharish Asghar of took the title with a clear margin of distance.
In 800 metres race of girls, Bisman Afzal of Lahore College took the crown while in 400 metres race, Nighat of University of Lahore. In long jump, Nighat also showed her prowess while Mahwish of LCU was second. In males’ 200 metres race, Saeed Aaun got to limelight while in 400 metres Khurshid Khan of Punjab University had luck in his favour. Lahore district won the Fancy Dress show held at the Model Town Girls Degree College. Special prayers were offered for the early recovery of Malala Yousufzai.
The event was participated by the winners of all the district of Lahore division. Well-known dress designers of the city, Anam Ikram, Adila Javed and Faiza Hameed acted as judges of the show. Saba Ikram of College of Home Economics was declared the winner of the dress show while Aiysha Nadeem of Govt Girls College Sangla Hills was named second and Zainub of Sheikhupura College got the third position.
The girls students of the hosts of the event presented the folk music and dance. In cricket, Qila Laxman Singh School defeated Kasur School by seven wickets. Arslan Butt was declared the man of the match by taking five wickets while Zahid of Lahore was named the best batsman of the event and Arslan was the beat bowler.
In the sports and other general category events conducted by Higher Education Commission, 796 won their competitions of hockey, volleyball, badminton, tug of war, basketball, table tennis, mat wrestling, bodybuilding, weightlifting while science models and handicraft were also contested by a total of 1754 players and students.
In other parts of the province interesting and close contests were witnessed among the districts of different divisions and on the final Rawalpindi got involved in seven sports events six non-sports events with the participation of around 211 players from which 58 were the winners. At Gujranwala 95 won the place to compete in the Provincial level from among 218 players.
Faisalabad had the involvement of 168 players and 58 were the winners. Sahiwal saw 63 winners from 281 participants and at Dera Ghazi Khan168 contested but win remained the bane of 42 people. In non-sporting events like qirat, healthy baby contest, essay writing, milli naghme, cooking, dress show, dress designing, stitching and family dressing there were around 304 were the competitors and 38 earned limelight while around 2437 were the participants in the competitions of school sector in the events of essay writing, milli naghme and dress show. With the conclusion of Divisional Level all the Festival activity now moves to the capital city of the province and competition in around 29 sectors and 256 events will be held from October 17 to 25.
