Qaim Ali Shah directs Planning and Development Department to conceive a comprehensive consultant body to design mega development projects for Karachi

Karachi, August 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the management of Planning and Development Department to conceive a comprehensive consultant committee comprising on leaders of civil society, technocrats, engineers, architectures and professional personalities to design the mega development projects for Karachi.

The Chief Minister Sind also directed for construction of a beautiful monument and designing multipurpose mega development project that not to be point of attraction for the tourists and local visitors but can generate the income for its further expansion as well.

This he directed while presiding over meeting regarding implementation on the Annual Development Program (ADP), 2014-2015 and disbursement of the 1st quarter of current ADP held at CM House Karachi today.

Addressing the meeting the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah that out of total Annual Development outlay of Rs. 143 billion, an amount of Rs. 25 billion has been released for the implementation of ongoing and new development schemes.

The Chief Minister Sindh directed the officers to release substantial amount against development scheme instead of little amount so that same could be completed within shortest possible time and menace of delay and possible price escalation could be avoided.

The Chief Minister Sindh also directed the officers to identify and implement at least on one Bus transit route from mass transit schemes already surveyed by JICA. Most probably orange line which is designed from Orangi Town to Matric Board Office Karachi.

He directed the officers also to co-ordinate with the concerned management and expedite the implementation on the village electrification and gasification schemes for which sufficient funds already have been made available to the executing organization in advance.

The Chief Minister Sindh directed the officers to ensure visible development impact and efficient deliveries to the people for which Sindh Government is spending ensure investment. The Chief Minister Sindh expressing his dissatisfaction over the disposal of sanitation and sewerage water specially at the cities and towns of rural areas, directed the officers that schemes of water supply, drainage, sanitation should be given priority.

He directed that in-addition to the development schemes; the special development packages specially for the divisional headquarters must be implemented in letter spirit. The Chief Minister Sindh also directed the P and D Management to re-visit special the development package for Hyderabad city and make it more effective and funded.

The Additional Chief Secretary Development Muhammad Waseem while briefing the meeting said that out of release amount of Rs. 25 billion as 1st quarter allocation, Rs. 10 billion to be expended on prioritized schemes pertaining to 12 Administrative Department, including special development packages, mega flagship schemes, special initiatives, coal energy, energy expect coal and transport etc and Rs. 15 billion would be spend ongoing schemes with fixed ratio priority to 418 schemes which likely to be completed by the end of this financial year.

He said that all the Administrative Secretaries have been advised to submit their recommendation for financing of other ongoing schemes from their remaining share of allocation. The Secretary Planning and Development Madam Rehana Memon and other officers from Planning and Development attended the meeting.
