Re-arrest of Mir Hafeezullah denounced

Srinagar, January 04, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronised by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has denounced the re-arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir leader, Mir Hafeezullah, by Indian police immediately after his release from Islamabad jail on court orders.

The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that such cheap tactics by the authorities were aimed at prolonging illegal detention of Mir Hafeezullah to weaken his freedom sentiment but they would never succeed in their sinister designs.

He said that the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), had been slapped on Mir Hafeezullah for more than 10 times and the Home Department of the territory had withdrawn the latest PSA against him one and half months ago but despite that he was not being released as he was re-arrested soon after his release.

The spokesman said that the continued illegal detention of Mir Hafeezullah and other Hurriyet leaders was unjust and proof of the authorities’ frustration. He said that killing and harassment of innocent Kashmiris could not suppress the ongoing liberation movement, as the people of Kashmir were determined to take it to its logical conclusion.

The spokesman also appealed to the world human rights organizations including the Amnesty International to take notice of the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners and impress upon New Delhi to stop state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.
