Self-determination for Kashmiris non-negotiable: speakers

London, January 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): Speakers at a seminar have said that the right to self-determination, granted by the United Nations, for the people of Jammu and Kashmir is non-negotiable, and have called upon the World Body to play its role for realization of this right.

The function was organized by the Kashmir Advisory Council (UK) at Langley Slough in connection with the anniversary of the UN resolution on Kashmir.

Those who addressed the gathering among others included Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo (Patron JKLF-R), Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, (Chairman International Chamber for Peace and Concilliation UK), Chaudhry Mohammed Afzal (Vice President Muslim League-N), Raja Muhammad Ishaq (Chief Organiser Muslim Conference UK), Councilor Chaudhry Mohammed Rasib, Councillor Chaudhry Muhammed Sharief, Mr Shakeel Advocate, Mohammed Swaroop, Mohammed Ilyas, Mohammed Muneeb,Zafar Abbas and Sajid Janjua. Shoaib Nazish, media advisor Kashmir Advisory Council, conducted the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo placed before the audience a realistic estimate of present international situation. He comprehensively referred to the global context of the Kashmir dispute and pleaded for a pro-active role of the diasporic community to convey a categorical message to the people who seek their vote during elections that if they support our just cause then only they deserve our vote. He saluted the determination of the struggling people and declared that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will ultimately be crowned with success and they will realize their self determination.

Professor Shawl observed that United Nations had so far failed to settle the Kashmir dispute. He, however, hoped that as soon as UN realised to settle the dispute and take constructive initiatives for settlement it will not only strengthen the regional peace but also promote the global peace.

He pointed out that patch work arrangement or a hollow truce is not the answer but a comprehensive agreement which can be called the realisation of self-determination by the people of Jammu and kashmir. He declared that self-determination is non negotiable.

Chaudry Mohammed Afzal reiterated his belief that the sacrifices of our martyrs would not go waste and stressed the need to continue the mission with added zeal and zest. Raja Mohammed Eshaq pleaded for a single-point agenda of self-determination for the unity of all the political groups. Chaudry Mohammed Rasib asked the participants to associate the young generation studying in the universities and colleges with the just struggle for self determination. Mohammed Sharief advocated complete unity as the most needed instrument among all Kashmiri groups for realizing their right of self determination.

At the end, Shoaib Nazish thanked the participants and announced that 26th January, the Indian Republic Day, would be observed as a black day and a peaceful demonstration would be organised outside Indian high commission in London on that day.
