Karachi: A seminar titled “Far-right Narratives and Violent Extremism” was held in Karachi today. The event was jointly organized by the Press Information Department (PID) Karachi, in collaboration with PID Media Cell to Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the event brought together students, faculty members, researchers, media professionals, and members of academia, fostering meaningful dialogue on the ideological, political, and social dynamics behind far-right movements and their influence on extremist thought.
Speaking on the occasion, former diplomat, Ambassador, Retired, G.R. Baloch, said extremism poses not only a religious threat but also a strategic threat at Pakistan’s eastern and western borders. He stressed the importance of revitalizing the National Action Plan, and urged that Pakistan’s youth be empowered to build socio-economic and knowledge resilience in the age of information warfare.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Department of International Relations at University of Karachi Dr. Naeem Ahmed remarked that Pakistan’s full ownership of the War on Terror could have better bridged the gap between the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Taliban and countered extremist ideologies more effectively.
The panel also highlighted the links between economic inequality, political exclusion, and extremist exploitation.
