Sindh High Court summons Advocate General over offensive remarks – Official blames court for putting life of patients in danger

Karachi, July 07, 2015 (PPI-OT): A single bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui has summoned Advocate General Sindh to explain the derogatory remarks against court passed by Manager of the Hepatitis Control Program.

Manager of the Hepatitis Control Program Abdul Khalique filed an affidavit with objectionable remarks in a case filed by a local pharmaceutical company against Government of Sindh and two multination companies alleging massive irregularities in purchase of Hepatitis medicine for poor patients.

The language of affidavit passed derogatory remarks against the interim order of the court restraining provincial health authorities from purchase of medicine at inflated rates. It attempted to ridicule court orders by alleging that it is the court’s interim order has put the life of patients in danger.

When the court asked the program manager to explain as to whether he instructed to government counsel to draft such derogatory language in hid affidavit. To which he responded in negative and therefore the court required appearance of advocate general Sindh Abdul Fateh Malik on July 14 to explain the position.
