Special Assistant to the Prime Minister addresses the concluding ceremony of 7th Regional Workshop on Counter Terrorism

Islamabad, October 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): Addressing the 7th Regional Workshop for Police Officers, Prosecutors, and Judges on Countering Terrorism, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, noted that social and economic development was a key to countering terrorism. He added that the Government has, therefore, made economic uplift of the country as its top priority.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistan in combating terrorism, Mr. Fatemi assured international community of Pakistan’s continued and unswerving commitment to fight terrorism. He stressed that no faith or religion condoned acts of terrorism.

Citing the globalized nature of the threat, he emphasized on developing effective international and regional cooperation towards countering terrorism. He stated that the regional workshop hosted jointly by Pakistan and the UN was a commendable effort in this regard.

Executive Director of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate and the Director of the Centre on Global Counter Terrorism Cooperation greatly appreciated the Government of Pakistan for hosting the regional workshop. They also lauded the efforts of the Government of Pakistan towards countering terrorism.

The 7th Regional Workshop for police officers, prosecutors and judges in South Asia on countering terrorism was held from 28-30 October, 2013 at Serena Hotel in Islamabad with the cooperation of the United Nations and the Centre on Global Counter Terrorism Cooperation. The Workshop was also supported by the Governments of Australia, Denmark, and USA. More than 50 participants, including police officers, prosecutors and judges from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka attended the event.
