Islamabad, October 23, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission HEC and National Testing Service (NTS) would organize special weeklong Master Trainer Workshop for the faculty members belonging to higher education institutions of Sindh during the last week of December 2012. Through this training workshop, the participants would be guided about the various HEC scholarship programmes, eligibility criteria and contents of the test, etc.
The program has been designed in consultation with the concerned stakeholders over the suggestions received by the vice chancellors, faculty and students belonging to different parts of Sindh. The master trainers would conduct such workshops at their respective universities throughout the province. The proposed workshop would be greatly helpful in building capacity of local universities to disseminate information related to various scholarship programs and conduct preparatory classes.
According to the focal person IUCPSS, Mr. Murtaza Noor, the proposed activity would also encourage the youth to avail various scholarship programs being offered by HEC and other organizations.
Commenting over this development, Executive Director HEC, Prof. Dr Sohail H. Naqvi appreciated the initiative and assured the utmost cooperation of HEC. He was of the view that HEC is trying hard to provide equitable access to the under privileged youth especially from remote and hard areas of country. Although, federal quota policy has been applied at foreign and indigenous scholarships but HEC is trying that each district may also get effective representation in these scholarship programs. Such workshops would be conducted in Southern Punjab and other parts of the country as per need assessment.
The NTS administration has also showed willingness to conduct the tests at the different parts of interior Sindh i.e. Sukkur, Nawab Shah, Larkana, Dadu and Khairpur. They have also agreed to give special discounts on tests for the youth from interior Sindh so they may be encouraged to apply for local scholarships.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Chairperson Inter University Consortium and Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur IUB said that being a neighbouring institute of interior Sindh HEIs, IUB would play an active part in HEC outreach efforts.
