SSGC disconnects 100 illegal connections, FIRs lodged

Karachi, February 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):The Sui Southern Gas Company’s SS and CGTO department has been setting new milestones with every arrest and disconnection. The team is dedicatedly working towards eradicating the major contributor to UFG (Unaccounted for Gas) i.e. Gas Theft. Recently, as part of Operation Grift, the team uncovered 92 residents across Sukkur and Larkana region that were involved in incidences of gas theft.

These culprits were stealing gas directly from SSGC’s distribution line via underground and overhead clamps. All illegal connections and equipment used for stealing gas were removed on spot and FIR lodged against those involved.

On the other hand, the Company has also been receiving positive news along the prosecution end. On 24th February, Rab Nawaz, the culprit accused of stealing gas via illegal connection for commercial purposes paid the first installment of the fine due for his crimes. He was directed by Honourable Judge of Gas Utility Court/ District and Session Judge Hyderabad to pay Rs. 200,000 to the Company as first installment.

Brig. (R) Mohammad Abuzar, Director General SS and CGTO, has sought the aid of the public to bring all gas thieves to justice. As part of the Gas Theft and Recovery Act 2016, all informers of gas theft incidences will receive 5% of the total recovered amount. Hence, the team requests all customers to play an active role in eradicating gas theft from its roots.
