SSGC’s clarification on the explosion costing precious human lives

Karachi, August 06, 2018 (PPI-OT): This is apropos to a news item that appeared in the sections of print media on August 5 and 6, 2018 respectively with regards to lodging of an FIR against SSGC due to an accident that caused the loss of precious human lives and injuring a few. Unfortunately, the information contained in the FIR duly reported by the media is totally devoid of facts and ground realities and hence SSGC deems it vital to put the facts in the right perspective so that a true and accurate picture can be presented.

Contrary to the contents registered in the FIR, claiming that the explosion occurred due to a leakage in a gas pipeline, the fact remains that there was no blast due to the pipelines of SSGC in that location. Please note that the location of the blast was being illegally used as a commercial godown in a residential colony.

The nearest gas pipeline to the explosion spot is at a distance and there are no traces of any blast in that pipeline, which were also witnessed by the area residents. To put the facts in order it must be noted that gas pipelines do not explode due to leakage, rather they catch fire, which never happened in this tragic incidence.

However the case of gas leakage reported in the FIR dates back to the month of June, for which we would like to clarify that after receiving a complaint from the area residents, SSGC’s team fixed the gas leakage and there was no complain reported thereafter.

We would request the print media to kindly publish / transmit our aforementioned clarification to their esteemed readers and viewers so that the real picture can be presented. We would once like to reiterate that for future reporting, our media friends should first consult Company’s Spokesperson or Corporate Communication Department for verification of any kind of news relating to SSGC before publishing the same in order to obtain our point of view for balancing your news stories.
