Strike in Pulwama enters 11th day today

Srinagar, January 10, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed for the 11th consecutive day, today, in Pulwama against the authorities’ refusal to allow construction of a martyrs’ memorial in the town. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road. Hurriyet leaders Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan in their statements issued in Srinagar, today, strongly condemned the use of brute force by Indian police on the protesters in the town. They extended full support to their demand for erection of martyrs’ memorial.

The leaders while hailing the spirit of Pulwama youth said that the construction of monument was not against the law, because all great nations always remembered their martyrs. An APHC delegation comprising Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Ghulam Nabi Zaki and others during their visit to Hakarpora, Kanterbug and other areas of Pattan demanded immediate release of the youth arrested by the police in Pulwama and other parts of Kashmir. On the other hand, hundreds of people attended funeral prayers in absentia for martyred Yasin Ittoo at Nagam in Chadoora. Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement had organized the funeral.
