Strong Pakistan imperative for Kashmir settlement

Srinagar, May 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, and senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, have said that strong and stable Pakistan is imperative for the success of ongoing Kashmir liberation movement and resolution of lingering Kashmir dispute.

In separate interviews, the two leaders congratulated the people of Pakistan for making successful the democratic process of holding of elections in the country. Syed Ali Gilani said that he wanted Pakistan to be supportive of all the oppressed people in the world including Palestine, Chechnya and Kashmir.

Shabbir Ahmed Shah said that Pakistan had always extended moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmir cause and hoped that the same would continue in the future as well.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in an interview in Srinagar said that India was using corruption and military might as tools since 1947 to continue its illegal hold on Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League General Secretary, Abdul Ahad Para, in a statement in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of illegally detained party Vice Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt in Baramulla jail.

Indian army and police continued massive siege and search operation in Hafruda, Zachaldara, Keran, Gurez and Machil areas of Kupwara for the sixth consecutive day, today. The army is using helicopters and sniffer dogs in the operation.

On the other hand, a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, revealed that while most parts of the world observed International Mother’s Day, today, thousands of Kashmiri women continued to wait for the return of their sons subjected to disappearance in custody of Indian troops and police personnel in occupied Kashmir, during the past twenty-four years. It said that the continued Indian state terrorism had resulted in the killing of over ninety thousand Kashmiris including children during the period.

The report pointed out that the troops had subjected over eight thousand Kashmiris to custodial disappearance during the period and the mothers of majority of these disappeared people had been looking for the whereabouts of their loved ones for the past several years.
