Supreme Court of Pakistan disposes of 366 cases in a Week

Islamabad, April 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 366 cases whereas 291 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 20th April 2013 to Friday 26th April 2013. The backlog remains 19168.

The backlog in the apex Court on 19th April 2013 was 19243 cases. As 291 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday 20th April 2013 to Friday 26th April 2013, the progressive total of pending cases on 26th April 2013 came to 19534 cases. Out of these, 366 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 22nd April 2013 to Friday 26th April 2013. The backlog on 26th April 2013 remains 19168 cases.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Hon’ble Judges continued to hear the cases with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
