Syeda Shahla Raza says that Sindh government has enacted a number of legislation to protect women from which the women are benefiting greatly

Karachi, January 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Women Development, Syeda Shahla Raza has said that the Sindh government has enacted a number of legislation to protect the women from which the women are benefiting greatly. All sections of the society have to play their positive role in implementing these laws, she said while addressing the function of the annual report published under the Sindh Human Rights Commission. Syeda Shahla Raza said that there is a need of the hour to empower women economically. In this regard, the present Sindh government formed Women’s Economic Empowerment Council, which includes individuals from civil society and industries.

She said that the Poverty Reduction Program was launched across the province under which the women of the province are getting full benefits. She said that inflation, unemployment, electricity, gas and commodity prices are the main cause of problems in the country. She said that today women of Thar are playing their vital role in the development of the province and the country in the field of health, engineering, as midwives, as truck drivers and others.

Syeda Shahla Raza informed the participants that the Women’s Complaint Cell is functioning in 14 districts of Sindh. She stressed that the police would have to take better measures to solve the problems of women. Earlier, Sindh Human Rights Commission Chairperson former justice Majida Rizvi briefed the participants about the performance and annual report of the commission. Ms. Anis Haroon, former Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq and others also addressed.

Sindh Minister for Women Development, Syeda Shahla Raza, while addressing a seminar organized by the Women Logistics and Transport Pakistan in collaboration with the US Consul, said that the current government should provide women with equal opportunities in every field of life. While all the law is being amended for improvement, the Child Marriage Restraint Act, Domestic Violence Prevention Act and the Harassment at Workplace Act have been passed by the Sindh Assembly, which, after receiving the results, due to which women of the province were more secure and economically better now compared to the past.

There is scope for further improvement in this regard and the present Sindh government is implementing gender equality. She said that to further improve the lives of home-based workers, there is a need for development of women and further development of their capacities, economic support and stability. The women development department is working in this regard and in the first phase, about 7,000 women and their families will be provided with the facilities under the project. On the occasion, the provincial minister Syeda Shahla Raza distributed the shield among the women belonging to the transport sector.
