All possible steps being taken for immediate release of funds for under construction flyovers at Shahrah-e-Pakistan: Minister

Karachi, April 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): Caretaker provincial minister for Local Government Muhammad Jaffer Khuaja said all possible steps were being taken for immediate release of funds for under construction flyovers at Shahrah-e-Pakistan so that these could be opened for traffic by 30th June. He said this during a visit of Shahra-e-Pakistan and Jail Chowrangi Flyover along with the caretaker provincial minister for food, Zakat and Ushr Khalid Latif, Secretary Local Government Ali Ahmed and Administrator KMC Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi.

The Chief of CPLC Ahmed Chinoy, D.C Central Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman, D.G Technical and M.C Central also accompanied them on this occasion. The Provincial Minister appreciated the pace of development work on four flyovers of Shara-e-Pakistan despite of unavailability of funds. He said the Sindh Governor and Caretaker Chief Minister had directed to focus the development works underway in the city.

The provincial ministers were given a detailed briefing on the construction of flyovers at different intersections of Shahra-e-Pakistan. The ministers also visited the Jail Chowrangi Flyover where they were informed that the KMC had already constructed the residential flats for prison staff inside the boundary wall of jail and the construction of right way of flyover will start right after the shifting of prison staff in new apartments.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator imposes rain emergency

Karachi, April 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi due to rains on Monday has imposed rain emergency, put off the leaves of concerned KMC staff and directed them to be present on their duties until next directive.

He also directed Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman to start drainage of rainwater on the locations where water accumulates and also monitor the situation of nullahs and downward areas.

Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi along with Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Director Machinery Pool Noman Arshad and other officers visited various areas of the city which include Airport, Natha Khan Bridge, Falaknaz, Malir 15, Sharea Faisal, FTC Bridge, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad underpasses, KDA Chowrangi, Old City area and different areas of cantonment board. He said that all resources were being utilized for drainage of rainwater and heavy machinery, pumps and labor were also being used.

He directed municipal commissioners of all district municipal corporations to utilize all resources for drainage of rainwater in their areas so that citizens would not face any difficulty in traffic flow. Following the directive of Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi cantonment board was provided with heavy machinery and pumps which were used for drainage of rainwater.

Administrator Karachi also directed municipal services department to be present in their offices all the time and perform concerned works. Administrator Karachi directed Municipal Services, Fire Brigade, Parks and other departments that in case of more rains all officers and staff should be present on their duties so that citizens would not face any difficulty. Besides Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan directed Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman to enhance the speed of spray campaign in the city.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator reviews Security arrangements at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Trauma Centre

Karachi, April 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that police and ranger officers should be deployed on inside and outside routes of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for making security arrangements effective so that patients and hospital staff could feel safe and any unpleasant incident could be dealt in a better way. He said this while addressing a meeting held for reviewing security arrangements in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Trauma Centre.

On this occasion Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Deputy Central Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman, Principal of KMDC Prof. Dr. Waqar Kazmi, Sr. Director Medical Services Dr. A.D. Sajnani, M.S. Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Dr. Nadeem Rajput, Sr. Director Technical Services Niaz Soomro, Sr. Director Transport and Communication Muhammad Athar, District Police, Traffic Police, Ranger officers and concerned officials were present.

The security arrangements which were recommended in last meetings for Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Trauma Centre were reviewed and a detailed briefing about the arrangements of traffic and security surrounding the hospital was given.

Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi said that security arrangements especially on inside routes of hospital would be made on priority basis. Ranger officers on central routes should be deployed constantly from tomorrow for which discussion with higher authorities of police and ranger has been made.

He directed that hospital administration should be in contact with deployed police and ranger officers and security arrangements should be improved by mutual cooperation. He said that Abbasi Shaheed Hospital should improve its services for citizens.

This is one of the biggest hospitals in Karachi and we would have to set our priorities on right track for enhancing hospital standard. Sr. Director Transport Muhammad Athar gave a briefing about the alternate traffic plan prepared for resolving traffic jam problem near hospital. He said the patients face difficulties in getting to hospital in rush timings.

Administrator Karachi on this occasion said that measures to ensure better traffic flow on the routes going to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital should be taken and in this connection alternate traffic plan prepared by transport department should be implemented. He said the video surveillance cameras surrounding hospital are being installed under Governor Package whereas city wardens will also be deployed in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Trauma Centre who will help security staff.

He said full proof security plan for doctors, paramedical staff and patients on inside and outside routes of hospital should be made. On this occasion Administrator Karachi directed concerned officials about the installation of sturdy barriers, building police check post, allocating space for parking vehicles, availability of fire extinguishing equipments and purchase of security equipments.

Karachi Metropolitan Commissioner meets North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry delegation

Karachi, April 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan has said that Disaster Management Program with the collaboration of North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry is being started under which prompt help will be provided in case of any fire and other incidents in industrial unites and factories situated in North Karachi.

He said this during a meeting with the delegation of NKATI in his office. The delegation was lead by Vice Chairman of North Karachi Association Muhammad Farooq and Chief of Disaster Management Abdul Rasheed was also with him.

On this occasion Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Director Machinery Pool Noman Arshad, Chief Fire Officer Ehtisham-ud-din and other officers were present. Metropolitan Commissioner said that a fire tender of KMC with staff would be provided to the office of NKATI so that prompt help could be provided in case of emergency.

He said cleanliness works of nullahs was also being carried out before monsoon rains. Metropolitan commissioner Matanat Ali Khan assured the delegation for the resolution of all municipal problems of North Karachi Industrial Zone so that like other industrial areas of the city North Karachi Industrial Zone could also be developed. He directed municipal services department to make strategy for providing prompt help in case of any emergency.

He also said that Disaster Management Program with the collaboration of NKATI should be made effectively. On this occasion NKATI delegation informed Metropolitan Commissioner about establishment of Disaster Management Cell in NKATI office that along with ensuring the availability of fire extinguishing equipments special emergency switches were also being installed. The delegation thanked for cooperation being provided by KMC.

Appointment letters issued to families of city wardens murdered

Karachi, April 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): The appointment letters were issued to the families of city wardens who were murdered in different areas last days in this connection Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan gave appointment letters to the deceased’s widow, sister and brother in his office.

On this occasion Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Chief City Warden Tehseen-ur-Rehman, Deputy Chief City Warden Mairaj-ul-Haq and officials of KMC Labor Division were present. Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan said that the city wardens who sacrificed their lives during duty have left a great example for others and prayed to Allah almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude.

Following the directives of Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi a member from each family of deceased city wardens was being provided with a job in KMC whereas Rs5 Lac cheque to each family had already been given.

Sindh Minister assures all possible support to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation

Karachi, April 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Local Government Muhammad Jaffer Khwaja has said that whatever time the caretaker government has, it will do its best to resolve the problems faced by KMC and in this connection he will talk to the caretaker Chief Minister Sindh and other government machinery to ensure timely payment of salary to KMC employees. If KMC increase its revenue by building commercial projects on its precious land, financial problems could be resolved.

He along with Secretary for Local Government Ali Muhammad Lund visited KMC central office at Civic Centre and expressed his views. After a briefing given by Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi he also talked with media representatives. On this occasion Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan and other officers were present.

The Minister for Local Government said that Karachi was a big city therefore fire fighting system and rescue system should be enhanced to deal with natural and other disasters which was observed more essential after the recent earthquake aftershocks. He said considering upcoming monsoon rains it was necessary to provide citizens with relief and by improving cleanliness and drainage of all nullahs citizens could be protected from difficulties.

Earlier Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi gave a detailed briefing about administrative structure of KMC, the duties of KMC under SLGO of 1979, financial system and ongoing development projects.

On this occasion Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Sr. Directors, other heads of various departments and M.D LDA was also present. Administrator Karachi on this occasion gave a detailed briefing on the development projects of KMC initiated in the city. He said these works will be completed by the end of current financial year.

He said the next KMC budget will be a realistic one. KMC has already started computerizing the record of all of its assets which is first time in the country. He said the administrative and financial system was put on right track; however we are trying to increase our own resources of income.

World Wildlife Fund officials visit Karachi Zoo

Karachi, April 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): Sr. Director Karachi Zoo Mansoor Qazi has said that plantation campaign help reduce environmental pollution and resolve environmental problems. The purpose of plantation campaign in Karachi Zoo was to deliver this massage to citizens that the plant planted today would be a thick tree tomorrow which would benefit upcoming generations and such programs should be held in every street, area, school, college and both sides of the roads so that city could be green and attractive.

He said this on the occasion of Earth Day Plantation Program which was held with the collaboration of (WWF) World Wildlife Fund Pakistan in Karachi Zoo. On this occasion Program Assistant Manager of Green School Program of WWF Maliha Habib and other officials were present who gave a gift of 500 neem plants whereas plantation of neem plants was started in Zoo.

The WWF officials said the Earth Day was observed on 22nd April aiming at creating awareness among people in whole world that they could make their land green and attractive along with reducing environmental pollution by planting plants. They said that WWF will continue its cooperation with KMC in order to promote plantation and reduce environmental pollution.
