Karachi, December 22, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar while approving the payment of around Rs20million for immediate disbursement of salary and pension of employees belonged to Christian Community before Christmas said Christian children would get free entry in the Karachi Zoo on Christmas. He was talking to a delegation comprising elected representatives from Christian Community who called on him in his office on Friday regarding payment of salary and pension to Christian staff of KMC and for resolving the issues pertain to cleanliness, water and sewerage in their areas.

The delegation apprised the Mayor about the problems facing by them in different Christian localities and asked him for bringing improvement in the sanitation and security condition especially around the main Churches. Chairman of legal committee of KMC Arif Khan Advocate, chairman land committee Syed Arshad Hassan, chairman works committee Hassan Naqvi, financial advisor Dr Asghar Abbas Shaikh and finance officers were also present on this occasion.

Mayor Karachi said that KMC will fulfill its responsibilities in connection with the provision of municipal facilities to Christian Community on Christmas so to enable them to celebrate their religious festival in a better manner. He said minorities have equal rights in Pakistan and they have been taken care well, all governmental organizations would make it sure to provide them with all necessary facilities.

He said development scheme be prepared for Essa Nagri so that roads and sewerage problems in that area could be resolved on permanent basis. Mayor Karachi said that KMC will in coordination with district municipal administration make all arrangements for cleanliness and lighting in areas where Christian community members reside He also directed that PC-1 be prepared for developing a park in the union council-5. He said that Mayor Karachi, district municipal chairmen and other elected representative will visit the churches on Christmas to wish the Christmas community and to show unity with them.

Karachi, October 12, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Local government Saeed Ghani has assured that powers to the Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar will be given powers under the law and would provided help within parameters of law. He was addressing a joint press conference with Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Thursday at the office of Mayor at KMC old building. He said during the meeting held with Mayor we have made a commitment to resolve the problems of the people without any discrimination collectively.

Minister said basic theme of the meeting was to resolve the problems of the people through meeting with all the chairmen of six districts. Citizens of Karachi would be served at all levels whether they belong to any party. He said it was the responsibility him and Mayor Karachi to resolve the problems of the people. He said during the meeting with Mayor there was no conflict and he would try to help Mayor within limits of law and even go to Sindh Chief Minister to resolve the problems of the people collectively and joint efforts.

Replying to a question that that there is also a room to make correction in the local government system he said that amendments in SLGO -2013 Act system can be made through Sindh Assembly. He said he has stressed to resolve the traffic issue of Karachi and this can be resolved when the encroachments were removed from the city. Answering to a question he said that amendments can be made in local governed Act this is not a “Sahifa” there was lot of room to make amendments if they are needed for the betterment of the people.

During the press briefing Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said “We both would work jointly for the betterment of the city. When asked about the acute water shortage in the city, Ghani said city was getting 35 percent water against the required capacity of Karachi. Ghani said water to the city is supplied from river and only solution to over the water shortage in Karachi DESALINATIION PLANT at sea was must as well as essential. He said this a plan for next ten to fifteen years and we have stated planning for today as water shortage is all over the country.

Karachi, October 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said that services of Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan – the first Pakistani Prime Minister for the nation will be remembered for ever. He gave sacrifices for the formation of Pakistan and also for its strengthening and gave his life for Pakistan. He said this while talking to media after visiting the grave of Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan on his birth anniversary. He laid floral wreath and offered fateha on this occasion. Chairman of DMC east Moeed Anwer, parliamentary leader in city council Aslam Shah Afridi, director media management director culture and sports and other offices were also present on this occasion.

Mayor Karachi said that Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan had great love for this country and he had pray for Pakistan which were his last words. Replying to a question he said that Karachi has many mafias who are in every province of country and the civic bodies have this duty to save and protect their land. He said that he had talked with the prime minister on census in Karachi and he has assured that he will solve this issue. He said we hope positive outcome of it and also good news about Karachi package. He said we must remember our national leaders and founders of the country who gave sacrifices for us.

Karachi, October 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said building rules were violated in issuing the layout plan for the building which caught on fire at the I.I Chundrigar Road on Monday. He urged that such actions must be stopped which put lives of citizens in danger. How the Sindh Building Control Authority passed the lay out plan of this building which had no emergency exit or way for fumes to get out.

He was reviewing the fire extinguishing operation by KMC fire brigade on Monday where he appreciated the performance of fire fighters who got control on fire immediately and started cooling process. Mayor Karachi called this sad that the building caught on fire, he said the building had also generators with petrol and diesel which was very dangerous. He issued on the spot directives to fire fighters and officers and said that full measures must be taken to save the lives and property.

He also directed the chief fire officer to put the fire tender and bowsers in ready condition so these could be use without delay. Mayor Karachi directives the fire fighting staff carried out the work immediately. Mayor Karachi said that we are making the fire brigade better and modern. He said Karachi is a big city and needs more fire tenders and other necessary equipment to put of fire wherever fire incident takes place in the city.

Islamabad, September 18, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said that fire brigade of KMC is made better with modern machinery and equipments this is important to control on fire immediately any where when fire erupt. This is essential to give such equipment to fire brigade which are used all over the world for extinguishing fire. He said this while addressing a meeting on the provision of modern equipment to the fire brigade in his office on Monday. The meeting was attended by the metropolitan commissioner Dr. Saif ur Rehman, director municipal service Nauman Arshad, director technical to mayor S.M Shakaib, chief fire officer Tehsin Ahmed, director vehicle Fareed Tajik and other officers.

Mayor Karachi said that fire brigade is an important department and it is necessary for a city as big as Karachi where high rise buildings and industry zones are located and it is very important for fire brigade every second if fire erupts in the city. He said we are making our fire brigade better and modern.

Giving presentation the chief marketing officer of local firm Rashid Alam said a niw device Ice ball is introduced first time in Pakistan for putting off fire which is used in the world in such operations. This automatic device is capable for this work and it can start working within five seconds in the remit of nine kilometer. This can put off fire in plastic, petrol, gas, oil and chemicals and short circuit fire. Mayor Karachi said that fire brigade in the world is consider the main department of municipal corporations and it needs to be updated according to requirements.

Karachi, September 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said that biggest mafias are in Karachi which include garbage mafia, electric mafia, land mafia who are destroying Karachi. In past districts made to break Karachi in pieces so MQM not get vote. Peoples party did Karachi in poor state, in Lahore you can make mayor with direct vote but how is possible in Karachi as you need to make 6 mayors here. In last ten years such works are done in Karachi which are black chapters in history. Large tree plantation started in Karachi 25 thousand trees will be planted.

He said this while address a program on the tree plantation starting in Gulshan Iqbal block 13 D on Monday. Chairman of DMC east Moeed Anwer, vice chairman Abdul Rauf, Khalil Ahmed Nenitalwala, uc21 chairman, Sabheen Ghori chairperson media management committee parks committee chairman Khurram Farhan and other elected representatives were also present in the program. Mayor Karachi said that trees will be plant in block 1 2 5 and 13D in Gulshan. \ Khalil Ahmed Nenitalwala said his KN Academy will also protect and water these trees and also give tree guards.

He said he will support mayor Karachi. Mayor Karachi planted a tree to start the campaign in the Gulshan Iqbal. He said we need plant as more and trees in the city as we can so that we can make the city green and beautiful to make it a better city. He said environmental pollution has to be deal with tree plantation, the city was facing shortage of trees and greenery therefore it needs lot of tree plantation so that environmental pollution could be eliminated and citizens provided better environment. Tree plantation and beautification of central islands and surrounding area of major roads and corridors and all other places is required.

Karachi, September 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said facilities for sports grounds stadiums sports complex for citizens. He said in his visit of the Landhi sports complex in Landhi No.2 chairman of DMC Korangi Nayyar Raza, vice chairman Ahmer Ali, director sports and other officers were present also. Mayor Karachi said in past these facilities were neglected and young players had not avail the sports grounds and sports complex. He said we want to give better sports facility to our citizens. Hockey, cricket and other sports are provided in these stadiums and complex Mayor Karachi has expressed deep concern on the persistent.
