Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael visits facilities and office premises of Marine Fisheries Department

Karachi, May 27, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael visited the premises and facilities under operation at Marine Fisheries Department. The Minister Kamran Michael while addressing the media on the occasion highlighted that all the issues brought up by Fishermen Cooperative Society, Karachi Fish Harbour and Marine Fisheries Department will be taken up at all levels and must be resolved on priority basis.

He stressed upon uplifting the down trodden state of affairs of local fishermen of the country as it is due to their sheer efforts that earns them the livelihood as well as becomes a platform for Pakistan to export fish and fish products to European Union and other foreign countries. The Minister Kamran Michael said that doubts regarding export operations from Gwadar Port have also been removed now as very recently the port has handled two export bulk vessels.

Similarly, fish at Gwadar Port is of high quality and Pakistan can gain a lot from the exports of fish and fish products from Gwadar, he added. Looking into this opportunity, the Ministry of Ports and Shipping has decided to open one regional Marine Fisheries Department office and one laboratory at Gwadar and that this will give them the opportunity to get their products certified in Gwadar for exports, he added further.
