More rains predicted during next 3-4 days

Islamabad, March 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): Met Office predicted more winter rains in the country during next 3 to 4 days. Spokesman of Met-Office informed that a fresh weather system has entered in the western parts (KP and Balochistan) of the country. Under the influence of this weather system, scattered rain with thunderstorm and snowfall over the hills is expected in coming 3 to 4 days as;

– Islamabad: Widespread rain/thunderstorm is expected from Sunday to Tuesday.

– Balochistan: Scattered rain/thunderstorm is expected in Balochistan (Kallat, Quetta and Zhob divisions) on Saturday and Sunday.

– Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir: Widespread rain with Snowfall over the hills is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Saturday to Tuesday.

– Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Widespread rain/thunderstorm is expected in upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar and Kohat divisions) and scattered rain/ thunderstorm is expected in Lower parts of KP (D.I.Khan and Bannu divisions) from Saturday to Monday.

– Punjab: Widespread rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Lahore and Gujranwala divisions) from Sunday to Tuesday., while scattered rain/thunderstorm is expected in Multan, D.G.Khan, Bahawalpur,Sahiwal and Faisalabad divisions from Friday(night) to Monday. Hailstorm may also occur at isolated places of North Punjab (Pothohar region) during the period.

– Sindh: Rain/thunderstorm at isolated places is expected in Sukkur and Larkana divisions on Saturday/Sunday.

Snowfall is also expected in Murree, Galyat, Kalam, Malamjabba, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday and Tuesday.

Spokesman also informed that wheat growing areas of barani regions may receive good rains during the period. Due to current weather system, the temperatures are likely to fall 3-5 ̊C in most parts of the country. Met Office further informed the farmers that another good spell of rains is also expected during mid of the current month.

Due to late winter rains and delay in onset of spring season, the pollen concentration in Islamabad is likely to increase during third week of March.

Rain with snowfall over hills predicted during next 48 hours

Islamabad, January 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted rain with snowfall over the hills at scattered places in the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spokesman of PMD informed that a westerly weather system presently giving rainfall in Middle East is likely to enter in Balochistan on Tuesday. Under the influence of this weather system scattered rain with (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Makran, Kalat, Quetta and Zhob divisions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scattered rain with snowfall over the hills is also expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Malakand and Hazara divisions), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir while at isolated places in Upper Punjab (Sargodha, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions) and Islamabad from Tuesday (Night) to Thursday.

Snowfall in Murree and Galyaat is also expected on Wednesday/Thursday. The day temperatures in upper parts of the country are expected to remain 2-3 degrees below normal on Wednesday/Thursday while the night temperatures will increase a little.

Dense fog predicted in plains of Punjab during next few days

Islamabad, December 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted dense fog in the plains of Punjab from Thursday.

Met. Office further elaborated that during next few days the intensity and duration of fog is likely to increase in the plains of Punjab (Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sahiwal) and Peshawar divisions. The plains of Gujranwala and Lahore divisions are expected to be the center of dense fog during next few days.

The current Fog spell in the plains of Punjab will continue with variable intensity and occasional gaps till the first good spell of winter rains in the country.

Winter rains predicted in the country during coming 2-3 days

Islamabad, November 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted rains with snowfall over the hills at scattered places from Tuesday (eve/night) to Thursday.

Spokesman of PMD informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter in Balochistan tonight that would grip upper parts of the country on Tuesday. Under the influence of this weather system scattered rain is expected in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KP), Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the period, while scattered rain is also expected over northeast Balochistan on tonight/Tuesday. Isolated rainfall is also expected in South Punjab (Multan, DG Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions).

Isolated snowfall over the hills in Galyaat, Malakand, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is also expected on Wednesday/Thursday.

The barani areas of KP and Punjab are expected to receive good rains on Wednesday and Thursday. Rain is also expected in the rice growing areas of Punjab during the period.The farmers are advised to take precautionary measures according to the day to day weather conditions.

More rains predicted in eastern parts of the country on Friday and Saturday

Islamabad, August 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): Met Office predicted widespread rain-thundershower with isolated heavy falls in northeast Punjab (Gujranwala, Lahore divisions) and Kashmir on Friday and Saturday.

Scattered rain-thundershower with isolated heavy falls is expected in upper Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana divisions) and southeast Punjab (Bahawalpur division) on Friday.

Risk of Urban and Flash Flooding

Met Office warns that most of the soil in Gujranwala and Lahore divisions has already saturated due to recent rains. More rains with isolated heavy falls may generate urban and flash flooding in the vulnerable areas of Gujranwala and Lahore divisions on Friday and Saturday. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT on Friday and Saturday.

Heavy Rains predicted in the country on Wednesday and Thursday

Islamabad, August 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): Met Office predicted widespread rains in the country with heavy at times very heavy falls at a number of places in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Eastern Balochistan and Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday. Scattered rain-thundershower with isolated heavy falls is also predicted in Sindh during the period. Heavy rains would generate Urban and Flash Flooding in the vulnerable areas of the country.

High Risk of Flash Flooding

Met Office warns about High Risk of Flash Flooding in the local streams, Barsati Nullahs of Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Peshawar, Hazara, Mardan, D.G.Khan, D.I khan, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat divisions and Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday. All concerned authorities are advised to remain HIGH ALERT on Wednesday and Thursday.

Monsoon would remain active during the coming week widespread rains predicted in the country

Islamabad, August 10 2013 (PPI-OT): Met Office informed that Monsoon is very likely to enter in its active phase on Monday, producing widespread rains with scattered heavy falls in the country during the week. Heavy at times very heavy rains are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), NE Balochistan and Kashmir during Monday to Wednesday that may generate Urban and Flash Flooding in the vulnerable areas.

Met Office informed that a low pressure area has developed over central parts of India (North Madhya Pradesh) which is likely to move northwest ward in next 24 hrs, and then it may persist over North India (adjoining areas of northwest Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and southwest Uttar Pradesh) during next 3-4 days.

Under the influence of this low pressure area strong to very strong monsoon current will penetrate in NE Pakistan (Upper Punjab and Kashmir) during the week. Cold Air associated with a fresh westerly wave is also likely to grip upper parts of Pakistan on Monday.

Due to the interaction of Monsoon Currents and Cold Air over northern parts of the country, widespread heavy to very heavy rains are expected over Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions), Upper KPK (Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar and Kohat Divisions) and Kashmir during Monday to Wednesday. Scattered heavy rains are also expected in central parts of the country (D.G.Khan, D.I.Khan, Zhob, Sibbi and Naseerabad Divisions) during the period.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT during the week, particularly from Monday to Wednesday.
