Pakistan Navy’s major maritime exercise SEASPARK-20 concluded in North Arabian Sea

Rawalpindi, March 03, 2020 (PPI-OT): General Nadeem Raza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was the Chief Guest at culmination of the Pakistan Navy’s major maritime exercise SEASPARK-20 in North Arabian Sea. The

live weapon firing of anti-ship missiles from various fleet combat platforms including Surface, Sub-surface platform and Aviation units of Pakistan Navy was the hallmark of exercise. The exercise displays Pakistan Navy’s intent to maintain highest state of readiness and combat potential to ensure seaward defence and protection of maritime interests of Pakistan during peace and war. Assets of Pakistan Army and PAF also participated in the exercise highlighting the synergy at tri-services level.

 

Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Chief of Air Staff (CAS) along with other senior military officials also witnessed the fire power display. CNS underscored that Pakistan Navy is ready to thwart any aggression posed by enemy. He reiterated the resolve that Pakistan Navy stands fully prepared to ensure seaward defence and safeguard national maritime frontiers against wider threat spectrum. Chairman JCSC expressed satisfaction over operational readiness of Pakistan Navy and commended the officers and men for their commitment and professionalism.

Commodore Tariq Ali of Pakistan Navy promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral

Islamabad, March 03, 2020 (PPI-OT): Commodore Tariq Ali has been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral with immediate effect. Rear Admiral Tariq Ali got commission in Supply Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1986. The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and National Defence University Islamabad. The Admiral has an illustrious career with vast experience of various Command and Staff appointments.

 

His major Command and Staff appointments include Director Inventory Control Point, Commander Depot, Senior Staff Officer to Commander Karachi, Staff Officer Integrated Logistic Support F-22P Frigates, Director Surface Stores and Director Naval Stores at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad. The Admiral is currently performing the duties of Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Supply) at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad. The Admiral is also a recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military).

National Institute of Maritime Affairs holds seminar on Kashmir issue at Bahria University, Karachi

Karachi, February 28, 2020 (PPI-OT): The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) organized a seminar on the topic of ‘Kashmir issue – Revocation of Articles 35A and 370 of Indian Constitution; Options for Pakistan vis-à-vis Rising Hindutva in India’ at Bahria University, Karachi. Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The honourable Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider graced the second session of the seminar as Guest of Honour.

 

During the seminar, various prominent and distinguished speakers comprising Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Ambassador (Retd) Abdul Basit, Former CJCSC General (Retd) Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Group Captain (Retd) Sultan M Hali, Dr. Rabia Akhtar, eminent Policy Makers, Security Analysts and Academicians contemplated on historical, legal, ethical and socio-political aspects of Kashmir issue beside implementation of Hindutva Ideology by India’s BJP fascist government.

 

The speakers underscored the need of effective diplomatic and media campaigns to mobilize international community on Kashmir crisis and strongly condemn the Indian Atrocities in Indian Occupied Kashmir. In this context, the policy options for Pakistan to effectively deal with ongoing crisis in Kashmir were also deliberated.

 

Earlier, Director General NIMA, Vice Admiral (Retd) Abdul Aleem highlighted the ‘special status’ of Kashmiris as well as depriving citizenship status of certain segments of Indian Muslims which is an obvious evidence of emerging face of Indian fascism. The Guest of Honour, Honourable Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider also elucidated the audience that Plebiscite is the only solution to Kashmir issue. He augmented the need to project Kashmir issue among International community for its rightful solution in favour of Kashmiris.

 

Later, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi in his closing remarks accentuated India’s move to change the status of the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir is another manifestation of the Indian Government to promote Hindutva Ideology, which is aimed at “saffronising” India and turning it into a Hindu-dominated “Hindustan”.

 

He further stated that Kashmir being the core conflict between India and Pakistan has its implication on the security situation at sea. Pakistan Navy however is well aware of the resultant challenges and is ready and prepared to thwart enemy’s ill designs. The seminar was attended by a large number of dignitaries, Tri-Services officers, academia, media representatives, members of think tank and students of Bahria University, Karachi.

Naval Chief visits Coastal Areas and Units at Sea amid Major Naval Exercise SEASPARK – 2020

Karachi, February 27, 2020 (PPI-OT): Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi reviewed operational readiness of naval installations and units at Turbat, Gwadar and boarded Pakistan Navy Ships operating at sea during on-going major Maritime Exercise SEASPARK-20. The Admiral was also given briefings on diverse plans of the Exercise. During the visit, the Naval Chief was received by Commander Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Asif Khaliq and Commander Coast, Vice Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi at respective Area of Responsibility.

 

On arrival at Naval Air Station Turbat, the Naval Chief was comprehensively briefed on operational plans, deployment of Pakistan Navy aviation assets and various operations being undertaken during the Exercise. Later, during visit to Gwadar, the Admiral was appraised on different operations, plans and readiness of deployed troops along Makran Coast. On completion of briefings at Command Centers, Chief of the Naval Staff boarded Pakistan Navy Ships operating at sea. The Naval Chief was given detailed briefing on-board Pak Navy Ships on Fleet operations and various plans being undertaken during the Exercise Seaspark 20.

 

Later, while interacting with troops, the Admiral expressed his satisfaction on operational readiness of Pak Navy assets and professional excellence of troops for ensuring robust seaward defence. Naval Chief appreciated troops morale, resilience to serve under multi-threat environment and readiness to surprise the enemy. While addressing troops, the Admiral also touched upon detection of adversary’s submarine during Post-Pulwama standoff as manifestations of Pak Navy’s professional excellence. The exercise SEASPARK-20 is a display of strong resolve and capabilities. Pakistan Navy being multi-dimensional force is determined to stand against any aggression posed by the enemy and safeguard maritime frontiers of Pakistan.

Chief of the Naval Staff visits Forward Posts in Creeks Area and reviews Operational Readiness 

Karachi, February 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited Command Centres and forward posts in Creeks Area to witness operational preparedness and combat readiness of troops during ongoing Major Maritime Exercise SEASPARK-20.

 

Upon arrival at Command Centre, the Naval Chief was received by Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Zahid Ilyas and was briefed about operational plans of the Exercise. Later, during visit of forward posts located at Creeks Area, Chief of the Naval Staff was received by Commander Coast, Vice Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi. Comprehensive briefs regarding ongoing operational activities, plans and deployment of assets and troops during the Exercise SEASPARK-20 were presented to the Naval Chief.

 

The Admiral expressed satisfaction over operational readiness and measures undertaken to ensure defence of highly complex terrain of Creeks area. The Naval Chief also reaffirmed the resolve that any misadventure by the enemy shall be thwarted with an iron fist.

 

Chief of Staff (Operations), Vice Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Rear Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami were also present at the occasions. While interacting with the deployed troops, the Naval Chief commended officers and men for their high morale, commitment and spirit of sacrifice to safeguard Maritime boundaries of Pakistan.

Chief of the Naval Staff inaugurates reconstructed building of Navy League held School at Baba Island, Karachi

Karachi, February 25, 2020 (PPI-OT):Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi inaugurated the reconstructed building of District Municipal Corporation Primary School and Khan Bahadur Ghulam Nabi Secondary School at Baba Island, Karachi. The school is adopted and run under social work initiatives undertaken by Navy League. Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral Zahid lyas was also present at the occasion.

 

Navy League was structured in 2001 with an ambition to look after welfare fundamentals of retired naval personnel and to engage in various social and community work projects. In this preview, Navy League through Sindh Education Foundation adopted the only established school at Baba Island in 2004.Since the adoption under banner of Navy League, the strength of students and teaching staff has increased manifold along with improvement of learning facilities at the institute.

 

The enrollment started with meager number of 150 students and 10 teachers, now bears more than 800 pupils and 31 instructors at the school. Besides, the teaching faculty based on local residents is also afforded with ample opportunities of cross training at various prominent NGOs and institutes including Sindh Education Foundation, Teachers Resource Training Center, Bahria University, Pakistan Navy, INFAQ Foundation and Literate Pakistan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of serving and retired Naval officers and Secretary Education Sindh.

Two Rear Admirals of Pakistan Navy promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral 

Islamabad, February 25, 2020 (PPI-OT):Rear Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi and Rear Admiral Zahid Ilyas have been promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral with immediate effect. Vice Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi got commission in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1986. The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore, National Defence University Islamabad and has also done professional courses from United Kingdom and Philippines. He has also attained Master’s Degree in International Security and Strategic Studies from UK and is an alumni of Royal College of London.

 

The Admiral has an illustrious career with vast experience of various Command and Staff appointments. His Command appointments include Commanding Officer PNS TARIQ and Director Pakistan Navy Tactical School. His major Staff appointments include Directing Staff at Pakistan Navy War College, Liaison Officer US CENTCOM, Director Naval Warfare Operational Plans at Naval Headquarters, Fleet Operation Officer and Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet.

 

His major appointments in Flag Rank (Admiral) include Naval Secretary, Flag Officer Sea Training and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at Naval Headquarters. He has also preformed duties as Additional Secretary-III in Ministry of Defence. The Admiral is currently performing the duties of Commander Coast. In recognition of his meritorious services, the Admiral was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).
