Heavy Quarantine fee imposed on exports

Lahore, April 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Kamal, Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (NZ), in a Press Statement informed that Poultry Sector of Pakistan is making a tremendous contribution in bridging the gap between supply and demand of animal protein requirements.

With the continuous depletion of supply of red meat, poultry is the cheapest available animal protein source for the masses as it constitutes 35-40 percent of total meat production in the country hence an effective check upon the spiralling animal protein prices. Poultry sector is one of the largest agro based segment of Pakistan having an investment of Rs.700 Billion. It is worth mentioning here that despite all constraining factors the growth rate of this sector is 10to 12% per annum.

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Kamal emphasized that Prime minister and Finance Minister of Pakistan should take serious notice of the conspiracy cooked against export policies of Pakistan. After efforts of many years, the export of poultry products was started from Pakistan recently. Present Government under leadership of H.E. Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has shown many commitments to increase the exports from Pakistan.

But the Quarantine Department of Government, Ministry of Food Security and Research of Pakistan have increased its fee by many fold. One example is the rate of chicken eggs; previous fee wasRs.1.25 per box which has been increased to Rs. 250 per box. It looks as a conspiracy against the Government, which as a result will destroy all the efforts of Government and poultry industry.

Government urged to complete work on energy projects at earliest as energy crisis was becoming a big threat for economic growth

Lahore, February 23, 2015 (PPI-OT): Former Chairman Poultry Association Abdul Basit has urged the government to complete work on all energy projects at the earliest as energy crisis was becoming a big threat for the economic growth.

In a statement issued here, Abdul Basit said that government has to complete Kala Bagh Dam project at any cost.

Abdul Basit alleged that the enemies of Pakistan were spending all their energies to push Pakistan on the brink of starvation but the nation would have to show solidarity to foil their nefarious designs.

He said that Pakistan was one of the countries on the planet earth where the water level was decreasing with every passing day. He said that in the year 1950, the water availability was 5000 cubic meters per capita and in the year 2010 it is 1000 cubic meter per capita while a huge quantity of 35 million acre feet water annually is being thrown into sea. He said that a huge tract of 9 million hectors of land is going waste due to unavailability of water. Abdul Basit said that the water storage capacity of exiting dams had also reduced by 26 per cent.

He said that the water shortage was not only impacting upon agricultural products but it was also aggravating energy situation as there was a time when electricity generated in Pakistan had a bigger hydle energy share in the energy mix and today the situation was other way round. More than half of the electricity is being generated through hydro power that is an unjustified proportion by all means for a country like Pakistan.

Poultry Industry calls for tax free import of poultry machinery and loans on same lines as announced for textile machinery

Lahore, February 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): While appreciating the government for announcing incentive-laden Textile Policy, the Poultry Industry has also called for tax free import of poultry machinery and loans on same lines as announced for textile machinery.

In a statement issued here, the former Chairman of the poultry Association Abdul Basit said that Pakistan’s poultry sector has a huge potential to get major chunk out of three trillion dollar Halal Food Trade provided this sector is patronized and supported the way the government has done for increasing textile exports. He disclosed that poultry exports could exceed textile exports if the industry is prudently facilitated by the government.

The former Poultry Chief said that the textile industry cannot prosper until and unless it has strong backing of the Agriculture sector which provides all the raw material for this important exporting sector of the country. He said that Pakistan is the only country in the world that has the largest irrigated Basin and according to some international reports, Indus Basin has the capacity and potential to fulfil food grain needs of the entire world.

Abdul Basit said that there was a dire need of value addition and Processing to increase the exports of food items and to achieve the target Poultry is the only sector. It is the only industry that could be grown to desired levels. It could be exported to the whole world after due processing and packaging.

He said that it is a matter of concern the entire Muslim world utlises Halal products with uncertainty because they cannot say for sure that if they are using the real halal food or not. But Pakistan is that the only country from where all the products are considered Halal. He said that Pakistani food products do not need any kind of certification as Pakistan produces only halal and nothing else.

Abdul Basit said that the government should immediately announce loans at two per cent mark up for the poultry industry to enable it to produce Export surplus. In the poultry export, processing is capital intensive step and because of high rate of interest its prices go up and makes Pakistani poultry uncompetitive at global market place.

Due to blockade of traffic by placing containers poultry industry is facing great difficulties: Raza Mehmood Khursand

Lahore, August 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Raza Mehmood Khursand, Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (NZ), in a Press release informed that due to blockade of traffic by placing containers, the poultry industry is facing great difficulties. Hatcheries, which are producing Day Old Chick, are unable to distribute them to the Layer and Broiler Farms. Parent Stock hatcheries are unable to deliver Parent Stocks to the breeder farms.

Number of feed containers that were destined for Attock, Chakwal and Abbottabad has been seized on GT Road by the Police and they are using them for blocking the roads. Supply of Diesel to the farms has been adversely affected.

The lack of diesel in controlled environment farms can result into 100% mortality for want of air circulation in the houses. Shortage and non-supply of feed can also result in mortality. Non-delivery of Broiler Day Old Chicks is causing a severe loss to the hatcheries, as the highly perishable chicks can neither be stored nor used for any other purpose.

Their non-placement at the farms will create a short supply in the coming 7-8 weeks which will force the increase in prices of chicken meat. Non-placement of Parent Stocks will create a long term short-supply after 6-7 months for a prolonged period of a year to 14 months.

The Association had laid these facts before the Secretary Livestock who convinced the relevant government quarters to facilitate poultry but unfortunately the containers could not be removed for the movement of vehicles carrying Day Old Chicks, Feed or diesel to the poultry farms, as such, the sector has suffered and is extremely apprehensive of what would happen in the coming days.
