‘Talks@PTCL’ speakers enthral the audience

Karachi, December 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), organized ‘Talks@PTCL’ where industry professionals enthralled the audience with their inspirational talks on topics related to technology, digital ecosystem and development of in-house talent. The event was held at PTCL headquarter in Islamabad.

The speakers at the second session of ‘Talks@PTCL’ were Mujeeb Zahur, Managing Director, S and P Global, who is also looking after Philippines and Argentina operations for S and P Global Market Intelligence, Dr. Farrah Arif, Executive In-Residence, LUMS and CEO, EdTechWorx, who has designed and delivered executive programs for MNCs and local companies and Anas Niaz, Founder and CTO, Bioniks, a start-up from National Incubation Center, Karachi, that creates functional limbs using brain signals to control the limb.

The participants included PTCL, Ufone, Ubank employees, industry experts and professionals and university students. PTCL top management acknowledged the speakers and presented them with shields as token of gratitude.

PTCL goes solar to conserve energy for a green Pakistan

Islamabad, December 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), in its endeavour to support the Clean Green Pakistan Movement, has initiated a comprehensive project to install latest solar power systems to conserve energy and support environmental preservation at its Headquarter, regional offices and exchanges across Pakistan.

Under this initiative, more than 700 PTCL facilities have been converted so far on solar solution across Pakistan. As part of expanding solar footprint to big installations, a 180KW solar system is deployed at PTCL HQs. Saad Muzaffar Waraich, Chief Technology and Information Officer, PTCL, said, “As a national company, we are very proud of our initiatives on protecting the environment and reducing the carbon footprint in the country. With the deployment of solar power systems at PTCL, we have a safe alternative to produce energy that can replace current fossil fuels like coal and gas for generation of electricity and reduce air, water, and land pollution, while reducing our dependence on the grid.”

Under the Clean Green Movement, PTCL has collaborated with WWF-Pakistan for plantation of mangrove seeds in Baluchistan and PTCL HQ is also declared a Green Office certified by WWF. In order to tackle issues of low forest cover and poor cleanliness in urban and rural areas of Pakistan, the company has also collaborated with Ministry of Climate Change, whereby, plantation of 200,000 trees is underway at PTCL sites in next five years. To go paperless and save trees, PTCL is providing its customers the option to avail eBilling facility through PTCL website, Touch App and Helpline 1218. Being a national company, PTCL is playing its role to save the environment and contribute to a greener Pakistan.

PTCL hosts its first ‘Digital Learning Hackathon 2019’

Islamabad, December 10, 2019 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) proudly hosts its first ever ‘Digital Learning Hackathon 2019’, at a special event organized at PTCL Academy in Islamabad. The initiative is launched to enhance capacity building of PTCL employees through introduction of the Harvard Manage Mentor (HMM), which is a globally recognized online learning program.

PTCL employees were provided with digital learning modules that helped them devise careful conceptualization, strategy, accuracy and real-time solutions for business cases. The Hackathon consisted of insightful presentations given by the participants, where the best solutions would be considered for incorporating into the company processes.

Federal Secretary IT and Telecommunication visits PTCL’s Zonal Office in Lahore

Islamabad, December 04, 2019 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) hosted Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Secretary IT and Telecom and Chairman Board of Director, PTCL, during his visit to PTCL’s zonal office in Lahore for a Business Review Meeting.

Functional heads of PTCL zonal management, including Business Operations, Technology and Corporate, delivered presentations to the Secretary, who showed interest in the business performance of the zone. Moreover, he shared his suggestions and view point over various aspects of market scenarios. The Secretary also visited key PTCL facilities, including Data Center, Call Center and Training Center at Johar Town Lahore. He was given a detailed tour of the facilities available at the centers.

An open house session was conducted at the zonal office, where by, the Secretary welcomed feedback from all the participants. Furthermore, he advised all functional heads to adopt a customer centric approach and make all out efforts to facilitate PTCL customers. The Secretary appreciated the good work done by PTCL and its management. He also expressed his pleasure over the professional standards maintained by the company.

PTCL launches Campus Ambassador Program ‘Safeer’

Islamabad, November 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has launched its new initiative called ‘PTCL Safeer’ (Ambassadors), which is based on the concept of a Campus Ambassador Program and is an integral part of PTCL’s transformational journey. The objective of the program is to bridge the gap between the Corporate Sector and Academia across Pakistan.

PTCL HR team, in collaboration with the placement offices of various universities, have selected ‘Safeers’ through a fair and transparent process from a pool of students provided by the universities. The selected students went through an orientation and training workshop at the PTCL offices, where their roles and expectations were outlined.

Speaking on the initiative, Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human Resource Officer, PTCL, said, “We are committed to support the education system in Pakistan by providing an enabling platform to young and bright students, who are the future of our nation. The Safeer program will provide first-hand professional experience and understanding of how companies work in real time. It will surely help these students to pave the way towards a better career prospect and growth.”

A Safeer is the flag-bearer of PTCL’s employer brand, which is based on the concept ‘Growth Tree – Lets Grow Together’ and acts as the first point of contact for students at the university for supporting them and guiding them to the right platforms. Safeers also work with the PTCL HR Team in executing other tasks in their respective university campuses.

As part of this initiative, Safeers organized and arranged talks of PTCL’s senior management that were motivational and experiential on diverse topics in the universities. Moreover, this program offers students the opportunity to do their final year projects based on PTCL’s real-time business scenarios. Through such initiatives, PTCL aims to provide the right platform for growth, skills development, decision-making ability, execution of real-time projects and capacity building of students.

PTCL and WWF-Pakistan conduct Spellathon in less-privileged schools of Haripur District

Islamabad, November 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Telecommunication Company limited (PTCL), in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan, conducted a Spellathon activity for 1,000 primary school students in national language i.e. Urdu. The activity, focused on nature conservation, was conducted in three branches of ‘The Working Folk Grammar School’ and one branch of ‘Khubaib School’ in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Officials from both sides participated in the prize distribution ceremonies held at the schools, whereby gifts and certificates were distributed amongst all the participants for their encouragement and confidence-building. Teachers were also commended for providing support to their students and for enriching the young minds with awareness of environmental conservation challenges in Pakistan. A total of 60 position holders from four schools were awarded high achiever gifts.

On the occasion, Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human Resource Officer, PTCL, said, “At PTCL, we are committed to the cause of education and environmental preservation. We are glad to collaborate with WWF for highlighting the importance of this issue through interesting stories and also commend their efforts in playing an integral part to educate young minds.”

On the occasion, Rab Nawaz, Senior Director Programmes, WWF-Pakistan, said, “We are pleased to partner with PTCL once again and with their support, we have been able to spread the message of nature conservation amongst the students at primary level. It is a privilege to see the Spellathon campaign educating students in Pakistan and we hope that this knowledge will be carried forward in an effort to contribute to the society.”

WWF-Pakistan strives to raise awareness and understanding for the need to conserve, protect and manage Pakistan’s natural resources through various educational initiatives. PTCL also collaborated with WWF-Pakistan last year as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and conducted Spellathon in the outskirts of Islamabad in less privileged schools.
