Trade Development Authority of Pakistan to cooperate with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Capital Chambers Conference

Islamabad, June 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): Trade Development Authority of Pakistan is organizing Expo Pakistan 2013 in September this year and it is the opportune time that Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry should hold its Capital Chamber Conference of ASEAN countries so that TDAP could consider supporting ICCI for making this Conference more productive. This was stated by Ms. Roubina Taufiq Shah, Director, TDAP Islamabad during her visit to ICCI.

He said Expo Pakistan is the biggest trade fair in Pakistan, which showcases the largest collection of Pakistani exportable products while many foreign exhibitors from neighboring and regional countries also use this platform to launch their products.

Thus it would be the best occasion for ICCI to organize ASEAN countries Capital Chambers Conference as many businessmen of these countries are expected to visit Pakistan for participating in Expo 2013.

Director TDAP said that ICCI should share with us the whole plan of its activities that would be undertaken during Capital Chambers Conference so that TDAP could evaluate its viability and consider collaborating with ICCI to make the event successful for the country. She also invited manufacturers of the federal capital to take active part in Expo 2013 and increase prospects of their exports.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry revealed that ICCI plans to host Capital Chambers Conference of SAARC, ECO, D-8 and ASEAN countries and the main purpose of these events is to promote direct contacts and build networking between the private sectors of Pakistan and said countries. Therefore TDAP should provide its support to ICCI for hosting these conferences as they would enable businessmen to explore new areas of mutual cooperation for trade, investment and joint ventures.

He said many foreign elements are active to isolate Pakistan and it is high time that government should support all initiatives of private sector aimed at opening up Pakistan to foreign entrepreneurs that will help in projecting a positive image of Pakistan to outside world. He was optimistic that events like Expo Pakistan 2013 and Capital Chambers Conference would contribute positively for presenting a soft image of the country.

During the meeting, many other issues which are considered as main hindrances in trade and exports also came under discussion and it was resolved that TDAP and ICCI would work together to resolve problems and promote Pakistan’s trade and exports.
