Troops launch violent operations in IOK

Srinagar, July 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops launched violent cordon and search operations in Shopian, Islamabad, Pulwama and Kupwara districts, today. The troops launched the operations in Nildoora Imam Sahib, Genashpora, Daragad Mohalla, Kakapora and Hangah Handwara in south and north districts of the occupied territory. The troops sealed all entry and exit points and conducted house-to-house search operations in the areas. The presence of Indian soldiers on such a large scale created fear among the residents.

Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the UN Human Rights Council, world powers and international human rights organisations to take notice of the unabated gross human rights violations by India in occupied Kashmir.

Hurriyat leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam asked India to shun state violence and implement the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir for the lasting solution of the Kashmir dispute. Jammu and Kashmir Islami Tanzeem Azadi in a statement paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of 13th July 1931. Meanwhile, three persons were killed and four others critically injured after a van rammed into an Indian army vehicle on the highway at Sandh Bari in Ghagwal area of Samba district.

On the other hand, the Brussels-based International Federation of Journalists in a statement strongly criticised the arrest of an editor of a Srinagar-based newspaper by Indian administration in a 27-year-old case. The IFJ termed the arrest as yet another attempt to muzzle the freedom of press in occupied Kashmir. The editor of Daily Afaaq, Ghulam Jeelani Qadri, was recently arrested from his house by Indian police in connection with a case dating back to 1992.

A large number of Kashmiri community members held a protest demonstration in Geneva on the sidelines of the ongoing 41st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council to highlight the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir by India. Kashmiri representatives including Altaf Hussain Wani, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Shamim Shawl, Hasan al Bana and Pervez Ahmed Shah participated in the demonstration.

A Kashmir delegation attending the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Council also organized a photo exhibition at Geneva Press Club, presenting a pictorial documentation of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir to the international community.
