UN, OIC asked to play role in stopping rights’ violations in IOK

Srinagar, January 17, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah while paying glowing tributes to the victims of Gowkadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres has appealed to the international community to play its role in taking the perpetrators to their task.

In connection with 25th, 26th and 22nd anniversaries of the above said massacres, Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said that the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Amnesty International should utilise their offices in bringing to book the perpetrators of these deadly massacres in Kashmir. He said, “Our hearts are filled with the memories of these martyrs and we are committed to fulfil their mission.” He appealed to the people to organize prayer meetings for these martyrs.

“The example of such brutal massacres is hard to find. The then Governor Jagmohan spread bloodshed which according to him was to teach Kashmiris a lesson by conferring unbridled powers to the Indian forces,” he added. Terming these massacres as holocaust, Shabbir Ahmad Shah deplored the silence of the world community on such barbaric acts in Kashmir.

He also took a dig at Indian media for resorting to biased approach vis-à-vis the massacres and killings in Kashmir. “During its fight with British Empire, India only saw Jalianwala Bagh massacre but in Kashmir, there are hundreds of Jalianwala Bagh massacres carried out by tens of thousands of Indian troops in the territory.”

“The officer involved in Gowkadal massacre had a spirit of General Dyer, who carried out Jalianwala Bagh. The massacres of Handwara and Kupwara were planned under a well thought-out strategy. 27 innocent people were killed on 27 January in Kupwara and 17 on 25 January in Handwara,” he added.
