Islamabad, June 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): The United Nations Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon congratulated the Prime Minister, Mr. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, on assuming his new responsibilities as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The UN Secretary General welcomed the first-ever transition in Pakistan from one civilian government to another and appreciated the people of Pakistan for reaffirming their desire for a democratic Pakistan by exercising their right to vote.
Acknowledging Pakistan as the leading Troop Contributing Country to the UN Peacekeeping, he appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and positive role in the United Nations since 1947.
Mr. Ban Ki Moon also expressed hope that the Government of Pakistan will continue to build on its democratic achievements and assured that the United Nations will support the Government in achieving progress and prosperity.
The UN Secretary General also expressed desire to work closely with Pakistan to address the challenges being faced by International community and welcomed the contribution of Pakistan towards regional cooperation, especially in supporting stability and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
