Faisalabad, July 29, 2013 (PPI-OT):

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Power Distribution Program successfully completed renovations of the Management Information System (MIS) center at Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), and handed over the center to the power distribution company (DISCO) today, in an event which was presided over Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan and also attended by Senior Management of both FESCO and the USAID Power Distribution Program. In his address CEO, FESCO said that the upgraded center will contribute toward the working environment for FESCO’s 18 employees working at the center.

“The renewed setup will enable a comfortable and relaxed environment for the staff employed and will ensure efficient operations of the MIS Center. USAID Gender Specialist Qurat-ul-Ain Ibrahim said that the needs of women are often neglected due to the small number of women employed in these organizations.

Through its proposed Gender Strategy Infrastructure Improvement Program, the USAID Power Distribution Program deployed the new MIS Data Entry Center which successfully creates a female-friendly environment.

These centers planned for other DISCOs will consequently result in improved efficiency, motivation and performance of female employees working at this center. Similar initiatives have been carried out at five other DISCOs namely Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) to improve their existing customer service centers, in order to help DISCOs gain the reputation of a “progressive” and “gender-friendly organization.”

The USAID Power Distribution Program is a five-year USAID funded project. Through this program, the United States Government provides assistance to the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to reform the power sector and mitigate the current energy crisis. The Program is helping government-owned DISCOs improve their performance by reducing losses, increasing revenues and enhancing customer services
