Use of brute force on protesters denounced

Srinagar, May 31, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the use of brute force on protesters is highly undemocratic, unjustified and condemnable. The Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar paid tributes to a civilian, Sajjad Ahmed Parray, who was martyred by Indian troops by opening fire on protesters in Pinjoora area of Shopian district on Wednesday. It said that such killings and the iron-fist policy adopted by the rulers had pushed Kashmiri educated youth to the path of armed resistance, leading to disastrous consequences for them.

The Hurriyat forum said the use of live ammunition including lethal pellets and teargas shells on protesters in Shopian district left over 200 youth seriously injured while the use of pellets has also caused eye injuries to scores of youth which is highly condemnable. It said the Indian government through lakhs of its forces present in South Kashmir has turned it into a military barrack where innocent people are killed on daily basis. The new government in India should change this policy, it added.

The forum termed the statement made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General, Dr Yousef Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, on Kashmir situation as the factual depiction of the ground reality. It said, the OIC Secretary General addressing the OIC Contact Group on Kashmir, rightly stated that the ongoing struggle in Kashmir should not be linked with terrorism but be viewed as a legitimate struggle.

The forum also hailed the suggestion put forth by the OIC Secretary General wherein he asked India and Pakistan to start a sustained dialogue for the resolution of Kashmir dispute, something that Hurriyat has always been advocating.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Butt, in a statement in Srinagar condemned the brutal killing of Sajjad Ahmed Parray. He said that innocent youth were being killed under the garb of cordon and search operations.

A spokesman of Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi in a statement in Srinagar denouncing the killing of Kashmiri youth by the troops said that the Indian state terrorism could not suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom sentiment.
