Yasin Malik leads big anti-India rally in Ganderbal

Srinagar, January 30, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, led a big rally in Ganderbal, today, against Indian government’s plan to convert the Muslim majority into minority by giving citizenship rights and other concessions to non-Kashmiris in the territory.

Addressing the rally, Muhammad Yasin Malik said that the Kashmiris would frustrate India’s all plans aimed at changing the demography of the occupied territory. He said that settling of non-state subjects was illegal and posed a serious threat to the ecology of occupied Kashmir. His address was punctuated by high-pitched anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. Earlier, Indian police arrested several JKLF leaders and activists from different areas to prevent them from participating in the rally.

Kashmiri religious scholar, Qazi Yasir, addressing a demonstration in Islamabad said that the Kashmiris would resist tooth and nail anti-Kashmiri policies of Bharatiya Janata Party and pro-India Kashmiri parties in the territory.

The Hurriyet leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, addressing public meetings in Srinagar and Ganderbal areas said that Kashmir was a political dispute, which should be resolved politically through meaningful tripartite talks involving Pakistan, India and the genuine Kashmiri leadership.

Meanwhile, the Indian police took into custody senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, along with his several associates from Awantipora to prevent him from addressing public gatherings in Tral.

People staged demonstrations in Srinagar, Sopore, Tral and other areas against the move of Indian government to convert Muslim majority into minority.

On the other hand, the New York-based world human rights watchdog, Human Rights Watch, in its World Report 2015 said that Indian troops continued to enjoy impunity under draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act, in north-eastern Indian states and in occupied Kashmir. It said that the encouraging progress on accountability for abuses by sentencing three troops and two officers to life imprisonment in the killing of three civilians in a fake encounter in Machil area of the occupied territory was overshadowed by Government of India’s failure to repeal or amend the AFSPA.
