Zubair Malik calls for army deployment in Karachi

Karachi, April 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): The business convention has resolved to urge upon the government to deploy Pakistan Army in Karachi in order to hold free and fair elections and de-weaponize the country’s economic backbone. The urgently called convention of the stakeholders by the President Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Zubair Ahmed Malik at the Federation House on Saturday, the business representatives including S M Muneer, former President KCCI, Haji Shafiqur Rehman, Vice Presidents Gulzar Firoz, Rukhsana Jahangir, Caretaker Minister Iqbal Dawood Pakwala, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Atiq Mir, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Zakria Usman, Dawood Usman Jhakoora, Begum Salma Ahmed, Shaikh Manzar Alam and several other stakeholders and representatives of shutter-power have unanimously passed the resolution read by Zubair Malik that: It was unanimously resolved in the meeting that Caretaker Government should take necessary measures to improve the law and order situation across the country particularly in Karachi. Before election, Karachi should be handed over to Army for three (3) weeks.

Karachi should be de-weaponized and police should be de-politicized. It was further resolved that the Caretaker Government should resolve power crises across the country particularly in Punjab. It was strongly emphasized that Government should reduce its un-necessary expenditure and invest in power generation.

Vicious circle of circular debt should be stopped immediately. Emphasized strong participation in the election through casting of vote. Under FPCCI a pressure group of traders and industrialist is establishing.

Police official should be posted with the consultation of traders and industrialist (FPCCI). Caretaker Government should expand its responsibility other than free and fair elections. President India-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, S M Muneer said on the occasion that some hidden elements do not want the elections held in May.

He said that government should resolve the issue of circular debt once for all in order to overcome energy crisis. He urged upon the government not bend upon any forces and hold free and fair elections. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that IMF has refused to sanction any further loan and exchequer has gone dried up.

He said in such a situation there is no other way except to hold elections. Gulzar Firoz urged upon the government to consult in postings of police officers in Karachi. Haji Shafiqur Rehman said that many companies have reached on the verge of collapse due to the law and order situation in the city and Karachi should be de-weaponized without further delay. Atiq Mir urged upon the government to impose immediate ban on import of luxury items as country’s foreign exchange reserves are depleting fast.
