Zulfikar Thaver urges newly elected body of Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry to recognize fact that small and medium enterprises sector is engine of growth, backbone of economy

Karachi, December 30, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) felicitated Mian Muhammad Idrees and Abdul Rahim Janoo who were declared elected as President and Senior Vice President of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCC and I) for the year 2015 and said modernization is crucial and hoped they would work with passion for the welfare of the whole business community inclusive of the small to medium sized entrepreneurs who are in urgent need of best deserving attention of the leaders.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said that indeed we are very happy that a very respectable and reputed businessman like Mian Muhammad Idrees has been elected as the president of FPCCI and also Abdul Rahim Janoo who comes from the well known Janoo family.

The FPCC and I will now have a very strong team of elected vice presidents (VP) from the provinces and it is expected that the VPS will bring in new ideas and attend well to the majority SME sector and the chamber of commerce and industry of the smaller cities of the country. Thaver also felicitated Fehmeeda Kausar Jamali and Muhammad Akram Farid who have been elected unopposed.

He said we are very pleased that very able and competent persons like Khawaja Zaraz Kaleem, Mohammad Ikram Rajput, Muhammad Waseem Vohra, Hameed Akhtar Chadda and Shahnawaz Ishtiaq were elected. Safdar Zaman Shah is also another able and dedicated businessman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

UNISAME chief stressed the need for the newly elected FPCCI body to recognize the fact that the SME sector is the engine of growth, backbone of the economy and contributes handsomely to value addition and self employment. The main issues of energy, law and order, corruption, high handedness of officials, infrastructure and logistics need to be advocated.

Besides banking, leasing, insurance facilities need tremendous improvements and UNISAME expects the new body to address these boldly rather than remain passive and serve as yes men to the ministries. He lamented that most of the chambers only cater to the large sector and do not advocate for the SME sector.

However UNISAME is confident that the new body will attend to the issues of the big and the small with dedication and work sincerely for the uplift and modernization of trade and industry. Secondly he urged the newly elected president, senior vice president and the vice presidents to promote the agro based industries for rapid growth of the economy on fast track basis.
