Karachi, September 18, 2015 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that it is a matter of pride that at NICVD in 130 days from 18th May to 17th September 1105 primary Angioplasties for heart attacks have been performed that is quite possibly a world record. This he said while presiding over a meeting here at NICVD regarding promotions. He said that in past, a patient travelling from interior Sindh had to make three costly trips to NICVD’s OPD and now this had been reduced to one trip to cover all these bases of consultation, diagnostic tests and prescribing medicines.
He added, ‘ Echo department is also being improved and 7 new machines, each one for Peads, ICU, ER and other relevant departments and they would work round the clock, while ICU and OT are also being improved and number of beds have been increased from 14 to 22 in the adult ICU and 8 additional beds in the Peads ICU.’ Minister for Health hoped that the number of cardiac surgeries were being increased from 1300 to 2500 a year, while x-ray machines, ventilators had been increased and better warm food cooked in hygienic condition was given to patients free of cost and several other programs had been launched for capacity building of the NICVD employees.
In other meeting Minister for health Jam Mehtab Hussai Dahar was told that during polio drive over all 7879455 children were vaccinated out of total revised target of 7972100 children under the age of 5 years while made 99% achievement. Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar showed satisfaction over polio coverage and said that Karachi had not reported a polio case since October 2014 and the last case was reported in Sindh in February 2015. ‘Polio eradication is our collective responsibility and Karachi is celebrating one year without polio in October 2015 and if we continue the hard work we can eradicate this disease from our province and country as well.’ he concluded.
