4th round of Policy Consultation talks between Pakistan and the Philippines

Islamabad, January 22, 2015 (PPI-OT): The 4th Round of Policy Consultation Talks between Pakistan and the Philippines was held today in Manila on 22 January 2015. Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Pakistan side while Mr. Evan P. Garcia, Undersecretary for Policy of the Department of Foreign Affairs led the Philippines side.

The two sides reviewed the entire gamut of Pakistan-Philippines bilateral relations. Noting the traditional warmth and cordiality of bilateral ties, they expressed satisfaction at the continued growth of mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse fields including trade, commerce, security and defence.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to further intensify cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, trade, education, science and technology, civilian nuclear energy and promotion of people-to-people contacts. They also agreed on the need for greater interaction between the private sectors of the two countries.

Both sides also discussed regional issues and matters pertaining to cooperation at multilateral fora including inter-faith dialogue. Pakistan reaffirmed its desire for an enhanced partnership with ASEAN. The Philippines’ side gave an overview of the regional issues in South East Asia.

The Pakistan side also briefed on the situation in South Asia, the monumental efforts made in countering terrorism as well as Pakistan’s efforts aimed at ensuring peace in the region.

The Pakistan’s delegation expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to them during their stay in the Philippines. Later the Foreign Secretary also called on the Mr. Albert F. Del Rosario, Secretary Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.
