Acting President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry meets steel sector representatives

Islamabad, April 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Shaheen Ilyas Sarwana, Acting President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) held a meeting with Mr. Akbar Abdullah, Chairman of the Pakistan Iron and Steel Merchants Association, Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq, Chairman of the Pakistan National Steel Association and Mr. Ali Ahmed, Chairman of the Pakistan Steel Rerolling Mills Association who visited the FPCCI Head Office on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

While discussing matters related to the iron and steel industry of Pakistan, it was noted that this sector was presently performing below its capacity, despite the immense potential due to acute load shedding of electricity and gas which have badly hampered the entire Iron and Steel Industry that it held in the process of construction and infrastructure development activities.

It was demanded by the participants that the steel industry must be exempted from load shedding and curtailment of gas in order to allow the industry to maintain its sustainability otherwise the requirement of the Iron and Steel will be dependable on import which will not be affordable and affect the balance of payment.

The delegation of the Iron and Steel appreciated the role of FPCCI and its support to their association particularly in resolving the issues of their unnecessary cases under NAB. They also thanked to the Acting President, FPCCI Mr. Shaheen Ilyas Sarwana in resolving their issues pertaining to Customs and Sales Tax.

Acting President FPCCI Mr. Sarwana assured the Chairmen of the respective Associations of FPCCI’s support in addressing their legitimate grievances and said that FPCCI would continue to voice their concerns at the appropriate forum in future also.
