Srinagar, December 30, 2012 (PPI-OT): Hundreds of people demanding justice to the rape victims of Kunan Poshpora have signed an online petition on Facebook. The petition started by one Shafqat Nazir on December 22 has already been signed by more than 800 persons. It is not only signed by Kashmiris but also by people from India and abroad.
The petition asked the UN Secretary General to take action against Indian troops involved in the mass gang rape in Kunan Poshpora in 1991. The petition reads: “Twenty two years have passed but the Indian government and the civil society have never shown their concern. India is all fire against the gang rape of a 23 years girl in a moving bus in Delhi and demanding death penalty against the culprits. We also demand action.”
A netizen having signed the petition commented that there should be no discrimination. “We are with the Delhi girl, because we have faced this disgust not once but a number of times be it Kunan Poshpora, Badra Payeen Handwara, Bandipora or Shopian. The crime was repeated again and again and the culprits are protected by the government agencies,” one of the netizens commented. “If Delhi rape victim gets speedy justice what about Kashmiris, aren’t they human beings,” read another post.
