Address by Chief Justice of Pakistan on retirement of Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan

Islamabad, May 16, 2013 (PPI-OT):

Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan;
Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan;
Distinguished guests;
Ladies and Gentlemen!
Assalam-o-Alaikum!

We are here today, to bid farewell to Mr.Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh, who has retired just few days before as Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan. He joined as a Research Officer in the Pakistan Law Commission in the year 1985 and by dint of his hard work, commitment and dedication to his job, he rose to the top position of the Department and was appointed as Secretary, Law and Justice Commission.

It is a great achievement and a unique honour for him and a befitting reward of the services rendered by him. His career progression is an example for all those in the queue. Certainly, path of progress is clear and open for anyone who is sincere to his work. As they say it, men live in deeds, not in years. Deeds are important and not the hours. Blessed are those who use their time to make it memorable and glorious. Everyone has the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Mother Teresa, Newton and Einstein, but everyone does not make use of his time the way those great men and women did. It is the dedicated hard work that counts and earns glory and honour.

Ladies and Gentlemen!

I must say, whenever any task was entrusted to Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh, he tried to accomplish the same as quickly and as efficiently as possible. I admire the services rendered by him as Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan in which capacity he also happened to be Secretary, National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee. His services 3 for the implementation of National Judicial Policy, 2009 are praiseworthy.

This role was very important and could only be completed with a clear vision. During his tenure as Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, he had also the honour to arrange many important events including two International and one National Judicial Conference.

I would like to congratulate Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh on successful completion of his service tenure. I am sure after retirement from service, he would be getting time to attend to things he wanted to do, but was unable to, on account of busy working life. We wish him all success in his future endeavours.

I hope that the officers and staff of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan will follow the footsteps of Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh and perform their duties and functions with full responsibility, dedication and commitment under the new Secretary, Law and Justice Commission, Raja Akhlaq Hussain who has taken charge of the post after the superannuation of Mr. Habib-ur-Rehman Sheikh.

Thank You
